Football Recruiting Update

As USCLink noted in the diaries tight end Blake Ayles (6-4, 255) announced his commitment to USC today.

From WeAreSC:

"The last couple weeks I've been breaking down schools, looking at them, and my decision is the University of Southern California," said Ayles, who was recently named to the ESPN Top 150 list.

"I like how they compete at USC. They say practices are harder than the games and that sounds like a lot of fun to me. I've got two former teammates, Aaron Corp and Michael Reardon, who have been on me every day trying to get me to come up there."

This a good verbal for SC.

SC also added JUCO Kicker Joe Houston from El Camino College. Houston will enter the fall semester as a preferred walk-on.

Houston (5-9, 175) prepped at Mira Costa HS in Manhattan Beach where he finished his HS career making his last 15 field goals in a row. He had six field goals over 40 yards. He hit on 21 of 24 field goals and 154 of 157 extra points.

Joe then headed to El Camino where he was named Special Teams Player of the Year as a freshman for the #2 team in the nation. He was also a unanimous All-Conference selection.

Coach Carroll talked to Joe last spring about possibly enrolling at USC in the fall and Joe was able to complete the necessary academic requirements to be admitted to the university in time for fall camp.

The only reason he is coming is because of the loss of Mario Danelo.

4-Star DT Armond Armstead will make his commitment decision on July 30th.

"I'm going to announce my decision on Monday, July 30th," said Armstead. "It (the announcement) will be at 7 PM at Table 260, which is one of my favorite restaurants. Its going to be family, friends, people from my past and some my pop-warner coaches."

"I've got some schools I am keeping in mind," he said. "My top schools right now are Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Texas A&M, USC and Oregon. Those are the only schools I`m considering right now."

This kid is a stud and SC is in a good place to land him.

Earlier this month 4-Star OL Daniel Campbell committed to USC over Florida, and LSU.

"It was important to me to be part of a winning program and USC has been on top for several years. I also liked the atmosphere when I went out there for the camp. The coaches are real positive and they get you fired up to play. They are bringing in a real good offensive line recruiting class too and I just think I fit in real well there."

As I have said many times in the past I'll be happy when they sign the LOI but it looks like SC is putting together another solid class for 2008.
