What a heart breaker.

Cal shortstop Michael Brady led off the bottom of the ninth with his third home run of the season Saturday as the California Golden Bears moved into a tie for fourth place in the Pac-10 Conference with a 4-3 decision against the USC Trojans at Evans Diamond. Matt Gorgen earned the win for the Golden Bears with 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief as the Trojans stranded a season-high 14 runners despite 12 hits in the game.

Sophomore center fielder Nick Buss recorded his first four-hit game of the season with three singles, a double and two RBI while junior left fielder Lucas Duda went 2-for-2 with three walks. Freshman All-America candidate Grant Green (Anaheim Hills/Canyon HS) had a single in a 1-for-3 day and has now hit safely in 24 of his last 26 games.

Both teams have matching 26-24 overall records with Cal possessing a 9-10 conference mark while USC is now 8-11 in the Pac-10.

SC has a chance to get back into it with a win tomorrow. Game time is at 1:00 pm PDT.
