USC Wins Series against WSU

After losing the series opener 5-4 SC came back to take the series against WSU this past weekend at Dedeaux Field.

On Saturday, SC won 9-5 as they got off to a fast start scoring 5 runs in the second inning.

The Trojans took advantage of three errors by WSU second baseman Jeff Miller to take a 6-1 lead after the second. Freshman Robert Stock started the second-inning rally with an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Cusick hit a ground ball to second, but Miller's throw to second base was off the mark to score the second run. A walk to Grant Green, a fielder's choice by Lucas Duda and a groundout by J.J. Owen produced the final three runs.

Cook hit two WSU batters in the third as the Cougars loaded the bases, scoring two runs in the inning. After allowing just one run in the fourth, Cook threw three scoreless innings to improve to 6-2 on the season.

On Sunday, it was different story as SC had to battle to win the game and take the series 10-8.

LOS ANGELES -- Hector Estrella's two-run single in the eighth provided the winning runs as the USC Trojans clinched the Pac-10 Conference series victory with a 10-8 win Sunday over the Washington State Cougars.

The Trojans scored three runs in the eighth and battled back after allowing four runs in the top of the first.

Freshman Robert Stock (Westlake Village/Agoura HS) slowed down the Washington State offense by throwing a season-high 5 1/3 innings. He entered the game in the first after starter Tommy Milone allowed four runs and allowed just one run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

USC (23-22, 6-9) is currently in seventh place in the Pac-10, but only 1 1/2 games back of Washington and Oregon State, who are tied for fourth place at 6-6, and one game behind California (7-8). Washington State is now 21-20 overall and 4-11 in conference.

USC Freshman Robert Stock was key in both wins as he got the rally going on Saturday with his RBI single in the 2nd inning and on Sunday he pitched 5 1/3 innings shutting down the Cougars bats. SC gets this week off before they head to Tucson to take on Arizona for a 3 game series starting May 12th.
