I guess UCLA's loss to Washington wasn't as meaningless as some thought. Seeing our friends from across town like to gloat when we lose so a little "turn about is fair play" don't you think?
Look, I could care less whether the Bruins won the Pac 10 Tournament or not. Obviously I want USC to win but this is the problem with conference tournaments, one early loss can really hurt you position in the big tournament. As much as it pains me to say it, I actually think this a good thing for the Bruins as you can guarantee Ben Howland will ring some bells tomorrow in practice and make these guys focus.
But for now we can have a little fun with their loss.
My brother, the UCLA Alum, emailed this to me today:
What works for the football team from across town doesn't go for this UCLA basketball team.
"When you think of USC football, you think of Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, more TV-type stuff. It's not your typical atmosphere," said UCLA's Arron Afflalo, the Pac-10's basketball player of the year. "I think it's good to stay behind the scenes a little bit and shine when it's time. Who am I dating? I'm dating a little orange basketball."
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Blah Blah Blah.
Oh you shined tonight big fella...like apiece of coal. I know, he put the dagger in our heart in our house but that was then and this is now. That's ancient history.
Of course they also have the same quote up on our rivals site but of course under an entirely different context, you gotta love that last line. I think Afflalo will need to spend a lot of personal time with his date, as he sure as hell didn't get to spend much time with her during the Cal game. Hell, from looking at the box score it looks like he was hardly on the court.
Here's AA's stats from the Box Score:
A. Afflalo:
1-7 FG, 1-4 FT, 3PT 0, PF -5, 3 Points
They will still be a force no doubt but for now lets enjoy their misery for a change.
I'm just sayin'...Heh!
