USC

#25 USC at Stanford

Thursday January 25th - 8:00PM PST
Maples Pavilion – Palo Alto, CA

Stanford

12-5

USC Takes on Stanford Thursday night at the Maples Center in Palo Alto.

USC is off to a pretty good start as Nick Young was named Pac 10 player of the week and they broke the AP Top 25 earlier this week, they haven't been ranked since 2002. SC is coming of a home court sweep of the Arizona schools and looks to keep their hot hand when they take on Stanford.

Some Numbers:

  • SC is shooting .485 from the field, 510-for-1052
  • Taj Gibson is shooting .632 and has 8 double-doubles so far this season
  • SC has held 10 opponents to 60 points or less this season
  • Daniel Hackett is 58 of 67 from the line for a 86.6 percentage

The Top 25 ranking is nice but lets not get carried away we still have some work to do.

USC may be ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press poll, but the Trojans have some catching up to do in the Ratings Percentage Index, another component considered by the NCAA tournament selection committee.

USC was No. 60 in the NCAA's latest RPI figures, behind such unheralded programs as Appalachian State (43) and Davidson (58).

The Trojans also trail their next two opponents, Stanford (37) and California (42).

USC's mediocre RPI figure can be largely attributed to a nonconference schedule that included the Citadel, Mississippi Valley State, Bethune-Cookman, Charleston Southern and Longwood.

The article also notes Tim Floyds ability to shake up the line up and that his line-ups are usually based on Match-Ups.

This will be a fun one to watch. Lets hope that SC can keep the tempo going and come out with a win.
