Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

GameDay Open Thread - USC vs. Nebraska

I am heading out shortly to hook up with some friends to watch the game. I will try to do a little phone blogging but I wouldn't expect much.

Keys to the game:

  • The defense needs to contain Lucky and force Keller to make some mistakes, as he is prone to do when he puts the world on his shoulders.
  • Take the crowd out of the game. You do that by following the bullet point above.
  • Booty needs to come out firing and get the ball down field.
  • The running game needs to be consistent. I am fine with rotating backs as long as the production is consistent and not hodge-podge.
  • Obviously control the line of scrimmage.
Leave your comments or rants here. I will check in as I am able.

We need a decisive win tonight!!

FIGHT ON!

Quick thoughts on the day
Michigan > ND - I don't know why anyone thought this would be close, even thought both teams have been underwhelming. Michigan has had trouble stopping people, but at least has been able to score some this season. Meanwhile, ND has yet to score ONE td on offense. Why worry about how your defense is playing when you opponent doesn't have an offense? The wunderkind Clausen is now experiencing football outside of the Division III CA high school level. Welcome to the big time, buddy.

Florida > Tennessee - what happened to the SEC being all about defense? did Tennesse even deserve to be #22?

Texas > UCF - we all know what eventurally happens when you repeatedly win games against lesser opponents in the final minutes... Mack and company better straighten this out now

Utah > UCLA - Utah, which has an injury list that looks like a war report from the front lines, is rolling over the Bruins. Yeah, the backup QB was a guy who bolted from Stoops/OU (so you know he had talent), but come on. Once again, Westwood High drops the Pac 10 banner when it travels out of conference.

Now on to the big game and what I  hope will be a bigtime smackdown of the children of the corn. Fight On!

Redeem the Pac
U-Dub couldn't manage it, and the babybruins Fuclad up in SLC.

The rest of the Pac are holding serve against weaker opponents.

Beat these cornheads into the ground so the Pac can keep it's pride.

Go Bears!

by SoCal Oski on Sep 15, 2007 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

No revisionist history
UDub, even with all the Locker brouhaha, was unranked and OSU was #10. An upset would have been nice, but it doesn't compare to the embarassment in Utah.

by Defender90 on Sep 15, 2007 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions

No comparison intended
I didn't mean to imply U-Dub should have won, only that they didn't.

What happened in the SLC is just ridiculous.

In any case, Go Trojans!

I know

When you lost to Tennessee last year
Did you feel that you'd let down the Pac 10?  Did you care what anybody else in the Pac 10 thought?  Did you care what anybody in any other conference thought?

That game did more damage to the Pac 10's reputation than any other game in recent years.  Why don't you blame your own team?

"who could've possibly expected Reggie to do that??"

babybruin "strawmanning"
When you lost to Tennessee last year[:] Did you feel that you'd let down the Pac 10?

Actually, yes.  It was a black eye for both the Bears and the conference.

Did you care what anybody in any other conference thought?

Of course.  It set a tone that the Pac teams were soft and below par.  It was a huge millstone around the neck of both Cal and the conference, that we only managed to remove via convincing wins last year (such as against your little boys), and ultimately in the Holiday Bowl.

That game did more damage to the Pac 10's reputation than any other game in recent years.

I don't think losing on the road to a ranked team in one of the premier conferences did more damage than either losing to a very bad FSU team in a lousy bowl, or getting stomped by an 0-2 team of 2nd stringers from the WAC.  Congratulations, babybruin.  You again show why everyone else in the conference hates you people.

Why don't you blame your own team?

My team redeemed themselves last year, and so far through this year.  What has yours done?

Go Bears!

PS: Congratulations to the Trojans on a really impressive and dominating win.

First, congratulations on a dominating performance.  I didn't think there was much danger of your boys losing, but I didn't think it would be so easy.

That being said, I'd like to get your take on the passing game.  True, you didn't need to worry about it since the ground game was just steamrolling, but is this something that you guys have in the back of your mind at all?

Good luck next week against the Cougs.
