Sanchez out with a thumb injury

HT to Defender90 for pointing out the story on USCripsit.com's blog about Mark Sanchez and his thumb injury. The USCripsit.com blog post reads:

Quarterback Mark Sanchez has a hairline fracture in the thumb of his throwing hand, Coach Carroll said this afternoon.

The redshirt sophomore will be out at least three weeks, Carroll said. Sanchez hurt his right hand on a throw in Sunday night's scrimmage.

"It's tough news," Carroll said. "But in the meantime, Michael McDonald and Aaron Corp will get a lot more work at the backup spot."

All that Scott Wolf has to say (as of 9.30 p.m. Eastern) is that Sanchez "is not practicing and has a taped right thumb."

I was just chatting with Paragon and he's not convinced that it would be a three week recovery from a fracture - that apparently is the time frame associated with a bad sprain. He's going to check with some folks tomorrow and will post later in the day.

Programming note: Paragon will be off-line until later tomorrow, and I will be without internet access all day (the horror) for the next three days, so look for posts at random hours. Thanks for your understanding.

P*ssing contest on the way?
The discrepancy in the reporting is prolly due to the fact that Ben Malcolmson at uscripsit has the inside information, since he works for the USC Athletic Department. Wolf's blog now has added the fracture story, saying Sanchez will be out "2 to 4 weeks" (aka 3?).

Wolf had a kinda snarky beginning to a recent post, referencing the fact that "the newest (my bold) USC newspaper blogger" didn't even know Scott was standing next to him at the recent scrimmage. Seeing as Malcolmson is obviously more inside than Scott Wolf, I guess it's not surprising it might get his dander up a bit.

It shouldn't, really, though. I think Ben's job is to provide fans of USC football with up-to-date information on the program, from his unique, behind-the-scenes perspective. Wolf is a sports beat writer, covering USC for his paper.

Saw that
Between the 2 you might actually get a reasonable picture of what's going on. I was entertained that people were hacking on Wolf for getting to the update on Leinart's custody case before attending to the Case of the Fractured Thumb.

Agreed
I think most fans are smart enough to take something posted on an official USC site with the understanding that the goal is to inform fans, not to explore more lascivious stories.

SW is a "journalist" so he can be the objective outsider updating Leinart's custody issues and speculating about Danelo's death to draw attention to his column/blog.

yea but...
Wolf is anything but objective when it comest to Leinart...

Did Leinart nail Wolf's girlfriend or something?
It's not like I hold Leinart in great esteem for non-football reasons, but it's unclear to me why Wolf dislikes him so much out of the players of the last several years.

There's a lid for every pot
And that is all I will say on the subject.
