Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Bright Move Guys

Got an e-mail about this today.

What are these knuckle heads thinking? Aside from being tasteless and insensitive you would think that people would learn to stay away from this sort of  "humor" in today's society.  Unfortunately regardless of your background we have not come far enough in dealing with these sorts of issues.

Without getting on a soapbox here lets just say we have a long way to go in race relations in our society. There is no place for this at USC even if it is meant as a "joke". Disappointing to say the least but personally I find it disgusting.

Come guys use your head for something more than a hat rack.

After tonight's game I will move this to the main page so it will not be buried.

Thicker than two short planks
That was completely inappropriate, compounded by the inability to think two steps ahead about the likely results. I'm not surprised the other players elected not to comment; they could only have made themselves look like a bigger bunch of jackasses.

Lighten up...
No need to bring up race relations in regards to this story.  Not sure what tight little world you live in, but this type of stuff happens all the time in locker rooms.  The players simply made a boneheaded move by creating a public group for all to see and misconstrue.  The "White Nation" name was given by a BLACK teammate; obviously this was an inside joke gone awry.

Teach the players about responsibility in a public forum, but for goodness sake leave out the unnecessary race talk.

This reminds me of the wound up little "activists" while I was an undergrad, who felt compelled to shout and protest at the slightest hint of anything being non-PC.  Let's be a bit more level-headed and rational and not make this bigger than it really is...

Dude
I hate the PC bs, but even I was offended by this one.  These knuckle draggers only mistake was "creating a public group"?  If they were arian circle jerkers in private, thad' be okay?  Sorry pal, but this directly involves race relations.  not sure what planet you been living on.

Exactly
Most telling quote in the DT article: "football player Sedrick Ellis <i.e., black guy> sent Gopaul a message explaining that 'White Nation' is an inside joke on the team and that Matthews is not racist."

This is a stupid story, being hyped for no reason other than some Frosh psych major had too much time on her hands and/or was rejected by some football players she was crushing on. Was she invited to join the "public" group? Not according to the DT article. She apparently just used her Facebook friends list with a few USC players to hyperlink to this other site and "discovered" it and was offended by it. So even though Dallas Sartz emailed her to expain it was a joke, she gets p*ssed off at not being taken seriously and decides to start her own group to rile people up about it. Someone needs attention. Hopefully, she's so permanently scarred by it all she will feel compelled to transfer; maybe something in powder blue would suit her better.

Was it a dumb thing for those guys to do? Yes. Do people in college make stupid mistakes? Yes. Do they immediately deserve to be called racists by people who have no personal knowledge of them? Hell no.

I can't believe how many people in this country have their heads up their own a*sses... and they're not ALL Bruins.

I think it's entirely appropriate...

I won't get on my soap-box here but ...

To me it shows a lack of sensitivity. Why put yourself in the position of being called out at all. It just doesn't pass the smell test to me.

And if it is done in locker rooms all the time that a little different than putting it on the Web for all to see and have it misinterpreted.  Better to keep that sort of "joke" to ones self.

I'm just sayin'...enough said.
