Post Game Thread: USC 44, Arizona State 24
That was a really solid effort by USC. There were definitely some penalties - including a couple of ones that in my totally unbiased opinion were complete crap - but the quality of play was high.
Some key stats from the game:
- Booty threw no interceptions and was 26 / 39 for 375 yards
- USC picked up 265 yards after the catch
- ASU had 13 possessions, with 7 resulting in having to give up the ball: 5 punts, 1 fumble, and one over on downs
- Rudy Carpenter was sacked 6 times for 39 yards in losses overall
- Even if you exclude the sacks, ASU rushed for a total of 39 yards
- Lo-Jack got 4 of the six sacks - a huge effort and the most for an SC player since 1989
It's a good win to carry some momentum for the ucla game, which is going to require similarly solid execution if SC wants to pick up a win over the talented but mercurial Bruins.

Yeah, that penalty on Sed
But then there was that pass that looked for all the world like a backwards pass that could have been a quick 7 for ASU, so I don't think I can complain too much.
Loved when we started opening things up and going downfield.
Out here in Tempe
Stupid penalties once again seem to haunt us. Sedrick's penalty was something that I thought did not need to happen, but we got the make-up call on the lateral that was blown dead as an incomplete pass.
It was funny listening to the radio after the game. The Sun Devils were mad at their coach for not challenging the possible lateral call with RoJo. I called in the radio show to inform them that it was an unreviewable play the moment the ref blew it dead. They were also saying that it was a lateral because RoJo was a yard behind the line of scrimmage. Well Sun Devils, its a lateral only when the runner is behind the person pitching the ball, the line of scrimmage has nothing to do with it. I called in their radio show to inform them of the rules of football, then I added a question of my own. How come Carpenter was not flagged for throwing his helmet into the ASU sideline. It has to be a personal foul to throw a heavy piece of equipment that could potentially hurt someone. The Devils had no answer for that.
