Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

More upsets - when will the madness end?

So while you all were trying to decide how pleased to be that SC didn't quite shit the bed for a second week in a row, the college football gods were wreaking havoc again.

LSU lost to Kentucky in triple overtime, 43 - 37, on the strength of an Andre Woodson touchdown followed by the Kentucky defense stopping LSU on four straight running plays including a 4th & 2.

So Cal took the field at Memorial Stadium against Oregon State - the same Oregon State who were pummeled by Cincinnati - with a chance to play for  the top spot in the polls. Result? Cal 28, Oregon State 31. I watched the last quarter or so and it was an incredibly exciting game, with Cal losing on the last play when their redshirt freshman QB got confused on 1st and goal with 16 seconds and tried to run for a RD - straight into an OSU linebacker. Game over.

Somehow, when the Cal faithful were thinking that Cal was now poised to do what SC had done, I bet that they didn't have an upset at home in mind. I felt genuinely bad for their QB - doing his best, had driven the length of the field after avoiding a sack in his own end zone, etc., only to have it all fall apart as a result of inexperience.

LSU... well, I don't take any satisfaction from the score, but I'm not crying for them either. They'll be back with a vengeance, I suspect.

BTW, what are the odds that Arkansas fans will be using FBI-grade monitoring equipment to intercept Houston Nutt's cell phone use? Pretty good, I'd say. I suppose that tOSU will be number 1 in the polls tomorrow. Eurgh.

if anyone
thinks this is the last upset of the season, they're crazy.

and.... wow the end of the cal game was nuts. gimme field goal range for OT and the would-be hero redshirt freshman qb was either going to win the game for cal or lose it for them, he did the ladder with a dumb mistake.

the WORST thing about these losses is ohio state at #1. and les miles was saying USC had an easy path to the NC? i sure hope they can get past wisconsin and michigan..

and SEC idiots somehow using pac10 teams losing to other pac10 teams as proof the conference sucks.

Miles would never bag on the Big Ten
He's a Bo Schembeckler protege and a Michigan Man through and through.

for a good laugh,
if bc or usf actually ENDS UP where they'll be tommorow osu could even win the NC and somehow actually think they're the best team in CFB.. i go back and forth on the bcs, but this is why it's silly.

i still think lsu is the best and most complete team in CFB this year. but i have no idea who is number 2.

it has been an entertaining year, to say the least.

Arkansas fans
Someone traveled all the way to GameDay in Norman to hold up a sign that said "FIRE NUTT."

That's dedication, people.

Re: Stanford
Hadn't realized that they lost to TCU today. Where was that Stanford last week? Also, does that mean that TCU should be ranked above USC?

wait a second
i thought the only team that could beat stanford was stanford?

i guess the stanford vs stanford rivalry rages on. the trouble is, both sides are losing.

Nutt or Dorrell
Who would you rather have?

by frak on Oct 13, 2007 11:06 PM PDT reply actions

that's like asking...
if you prefer:

*Sodomy or buggery?
*beheading or decapitation?
*murder or homicide?

The only appreciable difference is that Nutt is off his head and can't coach, whereas Dorrell is Captain Normal and can't coach.

Taped the Cal Game
I went out to get dinner with some folks I had plans with and taped the Cal game. Put it on at 12:30 and just finished it. Crazy 4th quarter!  Disappointing, though - I was really hoping they'd be #1 when we play them. It would give us a much better chance of moving up the polls. But it looks like Oregon is going to be ranked damn high.

Have any of y'all ever watched a game from tighwad hill in Berkeley?  Is a decent view? It looks alright and fairly close on television. Is it hard to get a seat? I'm going to be back in LA that week and may just make the trip up.

Something tells me
If you try to root for SC on tightwad hill, they might strap you to the cannon and shoot you on the field.  Cal fans are not known for their hospitality, but more for their frozen vegetable lobbing skills.

I'm guessing I can handle the dorks...
I would be going with a group of Cal law students, too.

Good luck
At least you'll have some legal representation with you for the civil suit.
