Students feeling the Pinch for Game Tickets

It seems that the USC Student Body is getting the short end of the stick in regards to the amount of seats that are allocated for students. In this article by Gary Klein of the LA Times it seems that the powers that be want to cash in on the recent success of the program.

...USC, which established attendance records in each of the last three seasons, has reduced student seating from about 12,000 a game to 8,000. School officials said the change was made after determining that an average of about 6,500 students attended home games last season.

"We have data to show this should be plenty," said Steve Lopes, a senior associate athletic director.

Some USC students are not so sure.

"I think it's a money grab," said Philip DeCastro, a senior who has attended games since his freshman year.

USC's prosperity on the field in recent seasons has been eclipsed perhaps only by the gold rush at the turnstiles.

I'll say. My dad has been a season ticket holder for over 40 years and he has never seen the amount of wrangling going on for the choice seats or to get your seat upgraded. I'm all for the institution for making a buck. It's their product and if the public is willing to pay I understand that they will take full advantage of it.

Unfortunately in this situation we're talking about the students. When schools like Ohio State, Arkansas and Tennessee are encouraging their student body to attend and will take the extra effort to accommodate the student body you would think that SC would want to follow suit. SC should rethink this or make more seats available to the student body. For the amount of tuition that the students pay you would think that the school would provide a few extra seats,
