Ouch
Man, the Commies are embarassing themselves. Let us hope this is not a reflection of the talent gap between the SEC and PAC 10 this year...

Cal
Cal is terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if they fell entirely out of the Top 25 after this debacle.

True
But it would be nice to see a competitive game.

Mismatch
Since WSU only managed 1 Pac-10 win last year, I think they were prolly happy to pick up their big check and go home.

Arkansas
Impressed by the Hogs defense but the offense is lousy. Wonder if Nutt would consider going to Mustain.

Terrible Crew
This is a rock star officiating crew the SEC put out there. I'm not implying bias; clearly they're pretty impartial...but com'n guys, get your shit together and keep the flags in your pants...

Half time notes
The  Defense has played great in the first half. yes Arkansas drove 80 yards for a score but the D has played well.

The offense has played OK but has had some sloppy penalties for illegal formation. Gable has been steady Washington has seen minimal action due to his hammy. Jarrett and Smith have seen some action but Jarrett has looked a little out of it.

Danelo has taken advantge of some Ark. turnovers with a couple of field goals and a third to close out the half.

The Ark. D has been on the field a lot and the SC O line has contained them fairly well. They have had a little pressure on JDB.

Looks good so far. Still a lot of work to do on offense.

Agree on the crew
they look a little clueless out there.

PC needs to get an explanation on all the illegal formation calls so he can adjust it and cut down on the penalties.

Can't Expect The World
I remember I was in the student section during Matt's first home game and he threw a pass into the ground and the section took up the chant - "Booooty. Boooty."

But, I think USC has had a very predictable and run heavy first half, trying to get JD situated. We've taken no shots down field. JD Booty will get more comfortable as this game (and as the season) goes along, and USC will be able to open up the offense.

As well, I agree the front seven have looked great. The question remains about the secondary, especially after ROBERT JOHNSON, basically drove 80 yards on passes for a TD. Robert Johnson sucks, don't kid yourself.

I agree
Monk bailed out Johnson on that drive.

Yeehaw!
Patrick Turner with a TD (and he was double covered!)

Burnt Orange Nation
BON probably needs to shut it, what with posts predicting a close game...or an Arkansas victory? What we've done is waaaaay more impressive than McCoy's performance against North Texas.

No disagreement here
While you couldn't say that Texas didn't look good today SC's win tonight was against a much tougher team. You could also say the same thing for Tennessee.

I wil have a complete game summary tomorrow. We have some bugs to work out but it was an impressive win.

Band assessment
We looked awesome...our defense was outstanding, forcing 5 turnovers(!!!) and JD Booty was more then proficient.  Our running back committee looked solid, and there was no point where the band felt as though Arkansas was competitive...The lowest point was after their TD towards the end of the second half, but even then, no one was really concerned.  The offense caught fire after half time, and the Trojan's defense looked awesome...our linebackers looked as good as, if not better than advertised.

Although we might be the Pac-10's only hope (ASU, Cal, and fUCLA looked none too impressive) we looked and played solid football.  With ND's squeak by victory, fUCLA's weak opponent, Cal's blowout at the hands of Tennessee, and ASU's struggle with NAU, I feel confident with out status in the Pac-10...

Tonight gave the SEC a lot of firepower for the SEC is better than the Pac-10 argument though...Cal is clearly not top 10 material...I don't know what that says about Tenn tho.

First game
Although the LA Times was apparently underwhelmed "solid but unspectacular", I think we have a lot to look forward to after Saturday's season kickoff. The D was swarming and Booty really took control, especially in the 2nd half. The offense has soooo many weapons, with the expanded use of the TE/FB in addition to Jarrett, Smith, Turner and the pack o'backs stepping up to fill Reggie and Lendale's shoes. The Sporting News' college football guide had the Arkansas game as our "best chance to be upset" (oops) and I loved the LA Times mention of the Arkansas freshman who admitted he was painted red and white but secretly rooting for USC. It's pretty heady to think this team is only going to get better as the season progresses. BTW, did any one else notice that OT Kyle Williams was called THREE TIMES for the same penalty (not being at the line of scrimmage)? And he's a Senior! Talk about first game nerves/confusion.

Sorry, Kyle
Well, Pat Ruel explained the 3 penalty calls on Williams last week and said it was Chilo Rachal's fault. Chilo was lining up in the wrong spot, keeping Kyle out of his assigned position and getting the penalty calls. Fight on Kyle (and Chilo)!
