Florida Corner Lamont Simmons Selects USC

Press cover cornerback Lamont Simmons adds depth to Trojans secondary.

Lamont Simmons

  • Cornerback
  • Jacksonville, Fla. (Raines HS)
  • Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 180

Three-star defensive back Lamont Simmons chose USC over Penn State and Auburn in an announcement ceremony at Raines HS (Jacksonville, Fla.) on National Signing Day.

Simmons has great size and length for a cornerback and runs well enough at 4.5 to stay with all but the most elite receivers. He isn't afraid to come up and play bump-and-run coverage.

On Lamont Simmons' highlight tape, he doesn't flash great ball skills to turn bad passes into turnovers and he's not going to wow you with big hits. But his size and speed make him an intriguing prospect that could develop into a strong defensive back over the course of his collegiate career.

After committing to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the beginning of October last year, Simmons de-committed little over a month later. The timing of his de-commitment came a week after Simmons received an official offer from USC.

The Raines HS defender is a unanimous three-star prospect. Lamont Simmons ranks as the No. 68 cornerback in the country and the 970th overall recruit, according to 247sports' composite rankings.

With Simmons signing, USC now has three open scholarships with Damien Mama, Juju Smith and Adoree' Jackson to make their announcements later today.

Simmons also took visits to Georgia Tech and Arkansas and comes from the same high school that produced Notre Dame standout nose tackle Louis Nix. He will be one of seven Florida players on the USC roster with Leonard Williams, Buck Allen, Quinton Powell, Nelson Agholor, Leon McQuay III and recent addition Claude Pelon.
