Damien Mama Chooses USC Over Alabama, BYU

Student Sports

One of the top undecided prospects in the nation will be playing close to home this Fall.

Damien Mama

  • Offensive Guard
  • Bellflower, CA (St. John Bosco)
  • Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 370 | 40: 5.97

USC football five-star target Damien Mama is set to stay close to home and will look to build an already strong offensive line class into a great one. Mama announced his official decision to attend USC over Alabama and BYU on Wednesday morning on ESPNU's National Signing Day special.

The Trojans were extremely high on the dominant offensive lineman who helped lead St. John Bosco to the 2013 CIF and State Championships. He, alongside fellow USC commit Malik Dorton and former target Shay Fields and Jaleel Wadood, was part of St. John Bosco's dominant run featuring double-digit Division I recruits.

Damien Mama has been called the No. 1 guard in the 2014 class by 247sports.com and ESPN. At 6'4" and a reported 370 pounds, Mama has a unique combination of size and athleticism that could make an instant impact on USC's offensive line. He joins early enrollees Toa Lobendahn and Jordan Austin along with fellow National Signing Day commit Viane Talamaivao, who is expected to sign with USC today, along Tim Drevno's unit.

While the decision to remain close to home may have been his final option, Mama battled plenty of powerful offers from UCLA, BYU and national powerhouse Alabama. He even drew a direct visit from legendary Bama coach Nick Saban last week, but he stood firm with USC football following his promising official visit in late January.

Check out some of the best highlights from Mama's dominant senior campaign as he joins fellow Bosco Braves Nico Falah and Malik Dorton here at Southern California.
