USC Football: Light at the end of the tunnel for Trojan QB's

USC Decision 2013 should be coming in the near future, as Lane Kiffin says that he will name a starting quarterback on Monday for the upcoming tilt against Boston College.

Coach Lane Kiffin said that he would announce the starter after meeting Monday with Cody Kessler and Max Wittek. This after much debate spanning the last month going back and forth with the wind, as the Trojans could not find "a leader to emerge in the offense," Kiffin said during his weekly media conference on Sunday night.

Third-year sophomore quarterbacks, Kessler and Wittek split time during the Trojans' season-opening victory at Hawaii and in Saturday's 10-7 loss to Washington State. Neither stood out from the crowd while throwing for a combined 54 yards in the most recent loss, leaving players, coaches and fans visibly upset at the Coliseum.

In the midst of a befuddling opening performance on offense in the teams first two games, a lack of identity on the offensive side of the ball has surmised passionate disapproval from the USC fan base. While the reps where split rather evenly in practice and games, the team overall was in need of a major leadership declaration under center.

"We don't want to do this all year. But we're not going to be stubborn and name a frontrunner just because we're supposed to," Kiffin continuously stated during the final portions of fall camp practices. "Now we get to see them in game settings. We don't feel that we have to limit our offense with either one of them in there."

While the quarterback situations seemingly will be settled for the time being, turmoil surrounding the future of Lane Kiffin as the head coach remains the topic of conversation in the Los Angeles sports scene following a mystifying opening stretch. "Don't expect USC to fire their football coach in the middle of the season. It doesn't work like that," Los Angeles radio personality Petros Papadakis said last night during Fred Roggins weekly program.

In the midst of preparation for the upset-minded Boston College Eagles, the Trojans also announced that for whoever was named starter, the offense would be curtailed around ther skill set. As a prounounced move that could be a blessing in disguise for both players under center moving forward, gone are the days of indecision shifting towards the improvement and development of a legitamite offensive game plan centered around that one leader.
