The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation has named four finalists for the 10th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy, in honor of former USC and San Francisco 49ers great No. 42 Ronnie Lott. Luckily for USC fans young and old, another great No. 42 aligns the list in senior outside linebacker Devon Kennard.
The humble captain joins UCLA's Anthony Barr, Wisconsin's Chris Boland and Iowa's James Morris as the four finalists for the award. This season alone, Kennard has eight sacks on the season, which ranks second in the Pac-12, and 50 tackles (11 TFL) along with his Lott IMPACT Player of the Week performance against Hawaii to open the season.
Today I found out I made the pac12 all academic team as well as a finalist for the Ronnie Lott impact award.. ALL glory to God 🙏— Devon Kennard (@DevonKennard42) November 26, 2013
Finishing his career with an impressive 3.88 GPA and twice named to the Pac-12's All-Academic team, Kennard is now officially done with his senior term paper concluding his academic endeavors.
Interestingly enough, Kennard wrote his senior thesis on college recruiting and has been heavily involved with the USC athlete initiative in Haiti as well as many other programs that give back to the underprivileged Los Angeles community.
"Most important to me above all else is Devon's character. He always has been a pleasure to work with in every situation. His demeanor and study habits are second to none," said USC Assistant Athletic Director John Mosbach, who was one of many on the USC staff to praise Kennard for his diligent work ethic as a true student-athlete.
"Because of this Devon has earned the respect of teammates, coaches, professors, and others. He has been a great leader for not only the football team and other student-athletes, but all students on campus."
Playing in what will be not only his final USC/UCLA game but also his last game ever at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Kennard approaches this rivalry tilt with a heavy heart on numerous fronts. Kennard sat down with TrojansLive last night on KFWB 980 AM to talk about the matchup and his excitement about graduating from school this fall.
