USC Tennis: Both Men and Women Win

The USC men beat Virginal Tech 7-0 at Marks Stadium last week to improve their record to 15-0 on the young season, with some juggling of the line-up. In this match USCs #1 Steven Johnson didn't play and fresnman Eric Johnson was inserted at #6 singles, which is understandable. But what really caught my eye was the rest of the line-up, at #1 was Emilio Gomez who usually plays #4 and Yannick Hanfmann at #2 instead or 5. Both came through with victorys but Yannick had to go three sets. Ray Sarmiento and Daniel Nguyen played 3 & 4 and had easy victories with Roberto Quiroz being the first player to finish and Eric Johnson clinching the match.

The women opened the Pac-12 with a 6-1 victory over Washington State with a 1-0 conference and 11-2 overall, not bad for a young team still ranked #3. The Women played without #3 player Maria Santamaria, but got wins from the whole crew only losing at #1 singles.
