Progress, or just more of the same...
Kiffin is like many high-profile people. There’s a difference between the reality of the man and the media circus that follows him. The “reality” is that Kiffin’s statement about Meyer in 2009 was incorrect, and that he publically apologized back then. Some guys would harbor a grudge, and others (like Kiffin and Meyer) would bury the hatchet. I’m not sure either couse is worthy or praise or condemnation.
The main reason that this is a story now is because the media must be fed. The next story could just as easily be negative if it suits the media’s agenda. Don’t get me wrong. I think that it’s beneficial for USC to get favorable press, but that comes from winning as much as anything. To me, this story doesn’t represent much in the way of progress because it doesn’t make Kiffin a better coach or help USC win games…which is the narrative that matters above all else for Kiffin’s identity. .
