Looks like things were really busy for Men's tennis over the holidays, since coach Peter Smith picked up to new palyers out of nowhere. Adding players this time of year is not norman for tennis programs, but the trojans picked up two very fine freshman in Roberto Quiroz and Jordi Vives. Quiroz is USCs Emilo Gomez's Cousin and played Davis Cup with Gomez for Ecuador and has a ATP ranking of 776, very good for a freshman. Vives is from Spain and was one of the top juniors in Europe and has a ATP ranking of 1334. The Trojan men were already good now they become great with a very good chance of having the first 4 peat of a ncaa championship.
Over in Costa Mesa, California two freshman Trojans competed at the Costa Mesa intercollegiate classic the day after christmas. Johnny K. Wang and E. Johnson both players lost to the same player Alex Boulin from UCSB (france) who was the runner-up at the tournament. Wang lost in the first round even though up 5-3 and serving in the second set and Johnson playing very good tennis losing in the semi-finals. Johnson might be the better of the two with a big serve and volley and a all-court game to add to that. Wang is basically a banger from the baseline but will evolve into a fine player.
Here is a look at Quiroz he is the one in red a lefty
