Joe Paterno Passes
I had this ready to go last night, but I waited until it was confirmed.
An icon passed today.
Paterno is up there with the likes of Bear Bryant and John McKay among others. Paterno was a great football coach who sadly stayed longer than he should have.
There will be time to look at his legacy, both good and bad. I will leave that to others...
I will leave it at that.
Our thoughts go out to the Penn St family.
RIP Joe...

Tough loss, tragic end!
May all you Penn St.’ers hold your head up high. You guys have had to deal with the worst this year. Coach Joe Paterno sincerely belongs in the pantheon of college football heroes. In time, the world will come to realize that the world became a better place with him it- may he rest in peace.
Poor guy was just sticking up for a friend. The lesson here is there must be limits to friendship.

Seriously, I don't know how anyone assume to know. . . . . .
. . . .what transpired WRT Coach Paterno, Coach McQuery, PSU admin officials, and Sandusky? We’ve got a long chain of command that “could have done” some things, but things didn’t get done to stop that alleged monster of a man, Jerry Sandusky. If we’re going to be angry and disappointed in the people in charge of this mess, then the blame can be even spread out to law enforcement and the judiciary way back in ’01 when the grand juries refused to indict and stop Sandusky. Misplaced blame is a topic that we Trojans can write a book on, no?
I’m not sure what your initial implies? Is it sarcasm or literally- your true feelings on this matter?

Yes we can't play in a Bowl and that is lucky for the rest of College FB' but next year we at USC will dominate.

Sad day for Joe Pa's family and CFB. May he rest in peace.

College football lost an icon, but not necessarily a great man
There are different ways to measure greatest. From the standpoint of professional achievement, Paterno’s accomplishements are secondary to none. His philantropic efforts were admirable. However, he became so absorbed in these pursuits that when he had the chance to do something great on a humanitarian level, he did not even recognize the opportunity for what it was. I will remember Paterno as a great football coach, but as a man with misplaced priorities. May he rest in peace.
Riposa in pace

I disagree
The only tragedy here is that the Sandusky prosecution team lost a key witness.
If Paterno’s alleged actions and inactions are true – my opinion is that they are – then he aided in the permanent damage of multiple human lives.
If Paterno’s alleged actions and inactions are true, then any of Paterno’s achievements in football, in charity, or in building men of character are rendered insignificant by the human wreckage left behind by his misguided, selfish choices that supported his tragically misplaced priorities.
Blather on about his career and enjoy yourselves. But no crocodile tears from me.
I generally agree with this point of view, but I like to give the deceased a few weeks off.

I do feel for his family.....
When JP was quoted that when he was told ‘what had happened’ and he said he did not know what to do or something to affect. I thought to my self that he has lost it, his moral compass or was really senile except for FB maybe. Not know what to do, really? He should have retired earlier. But his ‘soon out of FB’ passing like that of Bear Bryant is telling of how much his life was driven by FB.
I feel for his family. I do. However, the wake left behind is something by not acting fully or properly at the moment is something can’t be forgotten. Especially if one has witnessed similar abuse and its on-going repercussions — no me, but some extend family members. It can be really devastating.
It is sad the that a ‘scandal’ was his final chapter.

Just checking in to see how Nikias and Haden are reacting
to this half-baked idea?
Or is it too soon?

Dear Lord!
And I just HAD TO read all the retarded comments on that thread? Thanks Flayfluhflah, thanks a lot.
I’m rec’ing you anyway. I loved your comment regarding the Attorney General- that was the only highlight of the entire comments. Way. To. Go!

I think the lesson here
is not to make a symbol out of a living, human man.
