Trojan Tennis Stars Finish off Tournaments
Today Steve Johnson got revenge on Daniel Nguyen with a 6-2, 6-2 victory some 4 years later after losing to Dan in their freshman years. But Dan came back with a 9-7 win in the doubles final with partner Ray Sarmiento against Steve and freshman Yannick Hanfmann in another all Trojan final. Also our women's players were taking care of business with Freshman Zoe Scandelis beating the #1 player in college tennis Stanfords Mallory Burdette 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, at Las Vegas. Danielle Lao took the final in Palm Springs against #29 ranked Emily Fraser 7-6, 6-0, Danielle is ranked #42 so it will move her up in the rankings as it will Zoe at #19.

Yes we can't play in a Bowl and that is lucky for the rest of College FB' but next year we at USC will dominate.

Sorry USC women were runner ups in double at both venues
The women are a work In process with the 3 freshman they could go all the way, since 2 of them will play in top 4 spots which will make the team twice as tough. The men are in the drivers seat for a 4 in a row NC, nobody has done that. Plus that would be 18 tennis men’s titles 2 more than anyone else Plan B and Sitford have 16. Yes the best tennis gas always been in the PAC since the 50s, even cal has a lot too.

Correction.
Four NCs in a row has already happened twice in NCAA men’s tennis.
USC — 1966, 1967,1968,1969
Stanford — 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998

Yep I meant to say we will be the only team to do it twice, since we are the only team to 3 peat twice
Not sorry, but just Stupid I guess I need to become a plan B person, maybe I can hang out with nestor and tidickies at the Mother Load. I love that place it is the only club where the stoles are upside down (seats 4 instead of one) and guy will push your stole up at the bar just to be cool.

Crazy fucking cool!
Awesome coverage of men’s tennis, SoCal! Your write-ups have been informative, comprehensive, and simply kickass.
Keep up the incredible work, your passion for tennis and USC is practically unmatched here on CC. And thanks Paragon for giving SoCal the visibility he deserves.
(ps: since you’ve been writing about USC tennis here on CC, I think it’s highly coincidental we’ve been doing incredibly years these past four years. have you been offering any of your sage advice to our players? that might very well be an infraction! ;- )
I have only had conversations with a few trojan tennis players and it hasn't been about their games.
The players Mens and Women have their personal coaches and USC team coaches and in my world unless someone ask I don’t try and Jump other Pros students, that is not saying that some other pros try and steal players. I have always been a low profile instructor and let my teaching and students do the advertising for me. Since the late 70s I have always gone to college tennis matches USC, Ucla, Stanford, Pepperdine and many other JC and College matches.
Bix if you really want a great weekend you should make way to the Ojai tournament 4/26—-4/29, great tennis all colleges and HS and it is the pac-12 championships. This is the oldest tournament in the USA and it is FREE—secure a room in Ojai or Ventura and Santa Barbara in the next month or just drive up for the day.

I haven't been to Ojai in a while
I doubt I can make it the full weekend, but that Sunday is looking good for me.
There’s been a lot of weird situations that have occurred for me since I went and got myself hitched- namely, “coordinating weekends”. It’s to the point where we synch our phones and calendars.
Did you ever replace your bike? Did I tell you I inherited an old chrome-moly triple-butted Team Pro Miyata 60cm bike? What’s your size for riding?

Just the Solvang century
I’m not much of a century rider, myself. I’ve got a few under my belt- but back in the day, I left the USCF as a Cat. 1 rider. My deal are omniums. TT’s, velodromes, criteriums, and the mountains. Sprint finishes/flat routes tear me up and chew me out the back. I can’t hang with slow pace/wind in my face, race-my-ass-off the last 5KM, try to stay upright on a technical finish, and sprint. I just can’t.
Now, if the century had some fine wine, fine women, and maybe a bluegrass band playing at the end (and . . . .i didn’t have to secure pledges or whatnot). . . then I’M ALL FREAKING IN!!!!

I used to ride with SCOR but did OC wheelman on sundays back in the early 90s then moved to Vegas and only rode my Mountain bike.
I rode Solvang 3 times and a ride in the Los padres national forest with 11,000 ft of climb and 110 miles in under 6 hrs but that was when i rode 250=300 miles a week and did at least 3,000ft. I lived in Downey and would ride to Turnbo Canyon 3 times a week and flats out to Newport—Laguna. I also rode with a group of 3 once a week pulling 27+ MPH to seal beach and back. My sister was involved with SCOR very cool people, sounds like you are a ball out racer like my best friend who i got involve 3 years ago.
Ventura—santa Maria is great country back then

You're too kind, but (a resounding NO!)
I’m not the rider I was 15 years ago. I do duathlons, triathlons, and some crits but mostly just because I’ve got nothing else better to do. I’ll train for a few of them out of the year, take the Cat’s Hill Criterium in Los Gatos. It’s a “thing” me and my high school buddies endeavor to do every other year (I try to do it each year- in the open/Cat. 5 division). Or the Granite Bay Duathlon or Los Angeles Sprint Tri-series races- those are the kind of fun stuff I like to do when/if I attempt to get my ass in the right gear- so to speak.
For what it’s worth: when I run or bike, I “try” to “think” I’m still a balls out racer like I used to be. Reality is quite different, I’m afraid.
