Please, lets keep these silly NFL rules out of college football
At least when is comes to the No Fun League.
There are more important things to worry about...
Mike Pereira, a former Pac-10 official under contract to the Pac-12, says the Ducks signature 'O' shape the players occasionally make with their hands after a touchdown, "borderlines on unsportsmanlike conduct."
Pereira pointed to the Lavasier Tuinei touchdown in the second quarter against Nevada as an example.
Really?
Whats the difference between this...

Bringing this up is stupid...
Football is an emotional sport, let these kids blow off some steam when they score.
Pereria has now backed off these comments but it should have never been brought up to begin with...
Sheesh.

The effort would be better spent teaching Pac-12 officals
…when they should and should not award 6 points for a TD. Furthermore, all officals should be familiar with the proper arm motions to signal a TD, so that this information won’t get “miscomunicated” to the press box. Just say’n.
Agree whole heartedly......
Anyway these jesters are nothing compared to prancing around that goes on in the NFL….. some looking like they are auditioning for “Dancing with the Stars”….

There is a BIG difference between poor sportsmanship and
running around with your hands in the shape of an O. Why do officials have such a tough time understanding this?
The support on this is muchly appreciated.
Periera actually reversed his stance on this today, so we’re all good.
"[Autzen Stadium's] steep concrete banks and closed ends turn a small but rabid crowd from WAC-sized cheering section into a horde of bees with megaphones capable of reaching 127 decibels of hatenoise." -Spencer Hall
Good to hear
As long as you’re not shoving the hands in an opposing player’s face when you do that, there’s no reason that should be unsportsmanlike. Sometimes they forget the word “excessive” is in “excessive celebration.”
I think its common sense
what is taunting and unsportsmanlike. Why can’t we just use our heads instead of installing draconian rules that let the yellow flags fly whenever a kid celebrates a little.
To be fair, the only difference this year
is that they admitted that there’s bias in the assessment of unsportsmanlike penalties.
Remember Everson Griffen’s flag for flexing, when a similar gesture by the ND player wasn’t flagged? The PAC-{10-12} loves to eat its own.
I thought that was Sedrick Ellis
Or has i happened more than once?
Fight On! Beat everybody but us!
They definitely flagged Sedrick Ellis for it in 2007
at Arizona State, 11 games into the season, when he had been doing it all season long without any penalties called. Of course, they chose a big stop on 3rd down to make that call for the 1st time in the season.
Since then, I tend to notice just about every time I see a player celebrate by flexing, and I have yet to see it called as a penalty on anyone else (regardless of what league they play in).
I happened to both of them
I remember lots of hand-wringing over the Griffen one, but I think the Sed Ellis one is the better example.
The Pac-12 in the worst attempt of officiating in the world.
Who--What--Slim Shady---Thats the duckies and Kelly maybe they should put their plays up in brail..

re: "borderlines on unsportsmanlike conduct"
In the words of the immortal Jules Winnfield, “ain’t the same fuckin’ ballpark, it ain’t the same league, it ain’t even the same fuckin’ sport.”
