USC expects defensive tackle Armond Armstead to be medically cleared early next week for the team's season-opening game against Minnesota.

Armstead, who experienced chest pains during spring workouts, is nearly finished with five months of tests performed by USC doctors. The senior defensive tackle performed individual drills in training camp but awaits final clearance.

"I don't have any problems, I'm just waiting," Armstead said.
