Kiffin won't be sanctioned by the NCAA

That seems to be the news from multiple places...

USC coach Lane Kiffin will not be hit with any penalties from the NCAA from his time at Tennessee, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported:

The two major violations levied against the football program were found to be secondary violations and no further penalties were levied against the UT program, former coach Lane Kiffin or former assistant David Reaves.

Kiffin faced the possibility of recruiting restrictions and/or a suspension after the NCAA charged him with failing to monitor his staff’s recruiting activities.

For once the NCAA didn't over react.

I'm sure UT fans are disappointed though...after all UT tried hang all the football issues on Kiffin.

I'm surprised that someone was actually paying attention.

Somewhere Clay Travis just became a little more irrelevant.

Better luck next time...

Hell they have been doing there shit for 50 years, like all the SEC teams. Who the hell is Clay Travis some what a be fan .

Who--What--Slim Shady----the ncaa is after all the BS they are lying out----and just remember they will rewrite history every seven years after the fact. Tennesse will get off with nothing on the violations, but that really doesn't matter they suck anyway.

Well, for this Tennessee fan...

I’m honestly just relieved that there will be no further sanctions for football or basketball. I’m certainly not ‘disappointed’ that Kiffin won’t be sanctioned. Honestly, that was the last thing on my mind. I doubt there’s going to be an uproar over Kiffin not getting anything else. The vast majority have moved on — thank God.

Well said

I personally have no desire to see Tennessee punished beyond what they deserve. From what I can tell, the primary violations in both basketball and football where fairly mild recruiting-type violations. There were not major eligibility, benefit, booster, or agent issues like many of the other recent scandles.

Most relevant, it appears that the UT coaching staff in BB initially lied about relatively minor violations, while the administration and ex-UT coaching staff in football told the truth. There’s a lesson to be learned there for future coaches apearing before the NCAA.

I agree that the majority of UT fans and moved on, and we’ll get to spar with the few who haven’t. ;) Good luck.

yeah I am not sure what UT fan wouldn't be extremely relievedl to hear this

It is nice to put all this in the past and forget about. I am happy for you guys that you won’t be forced to fire your coach or face more sanctions. Having a bunch of new coaches in a short time span really blows

"undergrad wrong" is a relative term

As in, Marc Tyler is a 5-star player- most of us who comment on blogs aren’t, nor weren’t. Other things are at play too- namely, the responsibility of a starting RB playing in a powerhouse program that is under the duress of NCAA sanctions. It kinda behooves a person like Marc Tyler to subtly act like a model student-athlete. A leader, if you will.

Guys like me, you and DFW, yeah. . . . . .we could get away with being stupid in any given year, on any given campus.

Then again, we didn’t have access to moonshine or mountain rotgut- so, maybe we did “do it wrong”, as it were? Relative, no?

Two totally "undodgy" things in two days?

Well, WTF? What’s the NCAA trying to do these days anyway? Earn themselves some respect, or something?

I don’t know NCAA-peeps, . . . . . .that’s a very slippery slope y’all are going down. Expectations might be a little much, for catastrophic-morons like you guys. ??

I’m quite happy for Coach Kiffin, very much so.

As for Tennessee? I guess self-sanctioning goes a long way for a coach like Bruce Pearl. Top that off with losing your AD over this! I just don’t get the NCAA’s COI? Last year, UConn had a player receive up to $6K in improper benefits from (get this) an “agent” and a “booster”- same person! Just like Shapiro. What did UConn get? Calhoun gets suspended for 3 games and loses 3 scholarships for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Yes- ….. .6 FREAKING SCHOLARSHIPS AND 3 GAME SUSPENSION. Why? This is what the NCAA says: "the university failed to monitor the conduct and administration of the men’s basketball program."

Like Pat Haden says, all we would ask from the NCAA is consistency.

If comforted in knowing that our Coach Kiffin won’t be sanctioned by the NCAA, which also sees the Volunteer program skate- then I’m all for it!

That could use some good news, Tennessee is it. Glad to hear it.

Good for you guys.

I’ve said on this site before that I thought USC got screwed with its pants on in the Reggie Bush ruling, and it’s nice to see that they won’t be piling on.
