Jio Fontan tears his ACL

LOS ANGELES, CA - MARCH 10: Jio Fontan #2 of the USC Trojans looks to move the ball against Brandon Smith #12 of the California Golden Bears in the second half in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Pacific Life Pac-10 Men's Basketball Tournament at Staples Center on March 10, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. I know this is a little late (DJ put it up in the FanShots) but this is horrible news for this kid.

USC's inexperienced basketball team suffered a severe setback Thursday when guard Jio Fontan, one of the Trojans' two returning starters, was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Fontan, USC's floor leader and top returning scorer, will require surgery and miss the 2011-12 season, Coach Kevin O'Neill said in by telephone from Brazil.

Fontan, a 6-foot senior from Paterson, N.J., was injured Tuesday night during an exhibition in Sao Paulo when he landed awkwardly after being hit in the air. The Trojans are playing a series of scrimmages and exhibitions in Brazil, and are scheduled to play their final game of trip Friday.

Damn Shame for this kid.

Sucks even more because he is originally from where I am at and the locals have high hopes here.

Hoops just can't catch a break.

Jio was the most important piece

Without him, its going to be an incredibly rougher road. Not sure how SC would have finished this year under a rebuild w/him, but, if we finish near .500 w/o him, I’d say it was a good year.

The streak of bad luck is incredible

Including Ryan Francis, that’s 2 starting PGs lost in the last 5 years.

Ahem, who’s bright idea was it to take a bunch of college boys down to mix it up with a bunch of jaded pros and semi-pros? Ryan Francis was an American tragedy, Jio’s plight is all on baldy. Ok, maybe not all, but definitely a lot.

Never can tell he might recover fast and make it back by conference.

Alexis Moore from LB Poly can take over the rains as he did in a winn scoring 16 points, this can realy ball.

Who--What--Slim Shady----the ncaa is after all the BS they are lying out----and just remember they will rewrite history every seven years after the fact. Tennesse will get off with nothing on the violations, but that really doesn't matter they suck anyway.
