Memorial Day
Tomb of the Unknowns (via FLICKR: Tony the Misfit)
I will try to say very little here...
Over the past few years it has been in vogue to take the time to publicly pay homage to our military personal who have served and who currently serve but especially those who gave their lives in service to their country.
For me to have seen our country openly embrace our armed forces after many years of apathy has been great to watch. Especially after years of ignoring the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform have made.
Everyone will reflect in their own way today. My thoughts will be on one friend who I lost very early on my Navy career.
I have said it numerous times before...my military career was unremarkable. I got what I wanted out of my service and the Navy got what they expected in return. The Navy and I settled up twenty years ago this month.
We're even...
But most important, I am happy to see our country go out of their way to openly support our service members after nary a glance for many years. The world is a much different place now and the stakes, along with the sacrifices these men and women make are a lot different than when I was serving.
My heart goes out to them.
I will leave it at that...

On Veterans Day
I’ve never been one for grammar police so this time only: The name of the song is “Anchors Aweigh.” Sink the Army Grey! It is a football song!
Original lyric:
Stand Navy down the field, sails set to the sky.
We’ll never change our course, so Army you steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll up the score, Navy, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail Navy down the field and sink the Army, sink the Army Grey.
Get underway, Navy, Decks cleared for the fray,
We’ll hoist true Navy Blue So Army down your Grey-y-y-y.
Full speed ahead, Navy; Army heave to,
Furl Black and Grey and Gold and hoist the Navy, hoist the Navy Blue
Modern “Army safe” version:
Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We’ll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh. Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!
Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more. Here’s wishing you a happy voyage home.

One million plus American soldiers have lost their lives while fighting our nation’s battles since the Revolutionary War. Thank you to each one. Your sacrifice is honored and your soul lives on forever.
Paragon though we have different allegiances when it comes to college athletics, we fought for the same flag. If I recall from a previous thread you were a corpsmen for 3/7? The bravest man I served with in OIF and OEF or met for that matter was a Navy corpsmen. From a bruin to a trojan, but more importantly from a Marine to a Corpsman, Semper FI.
