Men's tennis with the threepeat
Men's Tennis bested undefeated #1 ranked University of Virginia en route to their 3rd straight NCAA title!
More after the jump
Court 1 - Steve Johnson vs. Michael Shabaz
Court 2 - Jaak Poldma vs. Alex Domijan
Court 3 - Daniel Nguyen vs. Sanam Singh
Court 4 - Ray Sarmiento vs. Jamere Jenkins
Court 5 - Emilio Gomez vs. Justin Shane
Court 6 - Peter Lucassen vs. Julen Uriguen
After a dominant performance in men's doubles to claim the first point, USC Built on their momentum with Emilion Gonzalez taking the 5's singles match 6-0, 6-3.
The Trojans won 5 of 6 1st singles sets and looked like they would roll, but UVA came storming back, forcing 3rd sets in 4 of the 6 singles matches.
#1 Ranked Steve Johnson defeated #5 Michael Shabaz 7-6, 6-4 giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead.
Unfortunately, UVA was storming back on Courts 2, 3, 4, and 6.
UVA won the matches on 2, 4, and 6, leaving all eyes on Junior Daniel Nguyen and Sanam Singh. After Nguyen won set 1, Singh dominated set 2 without Nguyen winning a game.
In set 3, Nguyen broke serve in game 6 when Singh made the questionable decision to hard-second serve and double fault giving Nguyen a 4-2 lead.
Nguyen then won the following game, taking a 5-2 lead.
Singh battled back, winning his own serve then breaking Nguyens.
Singh served down 5 - 4, and Nguyen made a couple of incredible shots (including a diving baseline return) to set up his Championship clinching volley.
It's the men's 3rd straight championship, and 19th overall.
Fight on to our men's tennis team! As always, it's a great day to be a Trojan!

Awesome!
Watched it on ESPNU. Give them credit…Virginia fought hard. But Nguyen delivered again! Congrats to the team for a historic acomplishment. USC has the most NCAA men’s single titles, and had a previous threepeat in 1967-9. A proud day for our school.
That was a lot of tennis to watch today........
Way to go Trojans, a nail biter. Just finished watching the UF Women defeat the Wine & Cheese, first defeat at home since 1998!!!!!!
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
