Non-Revenue Update: #1 Women's Golf Clinches Gauntlet, #3 Men's Tennis Wins at UCLA, Baseball Wins For Pete Carroll

USC has now won seven times since the USC-UCLA Gauntlet was introduced in 2001, capped by a streak of four in a row.  UCLA's name has been stamped on the trophy just three times, most recently in 2007.

Women's Golf clinched the trophy with a first place finish in the Pac-10 Championship, finishing five strokes ahead of second-place Arizona and nine strokes ahead of UCLA.  Freshman (!) Sophia Popov won the individual Pac-10 title.  USC won despite the loss of star junior Lisa McCloskey to injury on the final day.  McCloskey's absence meant the team could not drop their lowest score, but in classic Trojan fashion, our ladies won anyway.

We still have a month of hopeful waiting until the ladies attempt a national championship run:  NCAA Regionals are held May 5-7, with NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas from May 17 through May 20.

More after the jump:

USC Men's Tennis extended our Crosstown Gauntlet point total with a dramatic victory over #9 UCLA in Westwood.  USC finishes the regular season 21-2, with their first spotless Pac-10 record since 1987.  They take a 14 game winning streak into the postseason.  USC is coming off two consecutive NCAA championships and definitely will make a serious run at a third.  Only three teams have ever won three consecutive titles: USC, Stanford, and UCLA.  USC has a chance to declare the most dominant dynasty since Stanford won four straight from 1995-1998.  USC is looking for its 19th men's title.

The Pac-10 Championship is held April 29-May 1.  The NCAA Championship begins with early rounds on May 13 and 14.  The main event runs May 19 through May 24 in Palo Alto.

In other news, USC no longer has a bad baseball team.  They are definitely far below the USC standard--competing for championships year in and year out--but interim head coach Frank Cruz's team is a serious upgrade from last year.  USC has now won three consecutive series over Oregon, Stanford, and Washington.

USC won their second game against Washington yesterday 12-9 after beating them 2-1 on Thursday.  This team is capable of gritty pitching and big hitting, but seemingly never both in the same game, although pitcher Ben Mount threw 2 1/3 perfect innings to get the save.  Pete Carroll was in attendance.

Our men started the season 8-15, but have gone 10-5 since including a 5-0 run they look to extend with a sweep over UW today.

Despite an 18-20 record, their Pac-10 mark stands at 8-6, a solid record in a competitive conference.  USC is currently fifth in the Pac-10 standings, behind Oregon State, ASU, Cal and UCLA: all teams ranked in the top 20 in the nation.  Sixth place Arizona is #22 in the nation.
