In the last couple of weeks USC beat Stanford 6-1 after falling the week before 4-3 to the Cardinal at the National indoors at Washington U. In the loss #4 player freshman sensation Ray Sarmiento had to default his match in the second set due to injury, but came back to play the following week to get a big win over Denis Lin 6-4, 6-2 close out the win for the Trojans. Then came Ucla and as earlier reported here by Pam Nathanson the Trojans did LA proud by Thumping the bRuins 5-2, by sweeping the doubles and taking 4 out six singles. Steve Johnson the #1 at USC and also in the nation clinch the victory over #43 Daniel Kosakowski (UCLA) - 6-2, 6-2 (I taught his order brother in his early years), Danny is just a freshmen playing #1 and it looks like ucla coach Billy Martin is stacking the bruin line-up again as usual with freshman Clay Thompson playing in the #3 slot. As you can see it didn't make a difference but thats the bRuins anything to get an edge.
The Trojan had Emilo Gomez (son of famous tennis pro Andres Gomez) and Danny Nguyen get to the Quarter finals before losing to Stanfords Brady Klahn and Ryan Thacher 6-2, 7-6 and 7-5 in the second set tiebreaker. Now it is off to the Indian Wells ATP tennis tournament on march 8 for Steve Johnson, he will start in the qualifling against seasoned pros and lets hope he makes that main draw which has Raffy Nadal and Roger Federer this year. And here is a word from Steve Here is a link to ATP tournament
