Lead by Steven Johnson the #1 player in college tennis, the trojans beat #12 Cal 4-1 for their 16th victory on the year and 2-0 in pac-10 play. With five matches left on the schudule four being conference play the trojans will play at Ojai, California ( the oldest tournament in the USA), which is the pac-10 championships. After that it is on to the Ncaa tournament, in which they look to be the favorite.
Since the weather keep the teams from playing doubles they went right into singles play, with Johnson starting it off followed by our three freshmen, Ray Sarmiento, Emilo Gomez, and Michael Grant. Steve put away the #15 player Pedro Zerbini 6-3, 6-0 in a dominating fashion, showing he is one of the up and coming players in tennis. The Trojans now have won nine in a row heading for home with matches against Oregon, Washington and Arizona, then on the road at Westwood.
