Larry Scott trying to deflect his poor decision

LINK

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott lamented not having South Division winner USC in Friday’s championship game. "Had there not been a postseason ban for USC, we’d have two top-10 teams in this game," Scott said. "Of course it’s disappointing when such a strong team like USC is not allowed to participate."

LINK

USC is not eligible for the postseason, putting South Division runner-up UCLA in Friday’s Pac-12 championship game. "UCLA earned their spot," commissioner Larry Scott said Friday. "It’ll still be a great showcase and we’re expecting a full house and an electric atmosphere, and there’s an awful lot on the line."

Did you get that?

let me reprint that... "It’ll still be a great showcase"

STILL??? LOL

Here's what Scott should've done

For this year, he should have made a special rule saying that if the South representative finished lower than third overall in the Pac 12, the CCG would be between #1 and #2 overall. That would be a Stanford/Oregon rematch, which is worlds better than Oregon/UCLA. Oh well, I never pass up the opportunity to watch a Bruin massacre.

Fight on!

Larry shows up on the Fox Sports Half time show

You’d think the guy thought up this extra conference game tonight would slink back to Walnut Creek and hide.

But, this guy shows up and the Fox Sports microphones say…“Gee Wow…What a game Larry!” Yeah.

it’s only Oregon 35-UCLA 17… LOL

Makes Oregon look weak…they’re drop a few slots by the end of the weekend.

Larry Scott is like a lousy joke.

Larry Scott is like a lousy joke. You want to laugh but you can’t because he’s too serious and not that funny anyway. So, there’s more of an awkward silence and a slight guffaw and then alot of pity.

Here’s the latest quote out of Larry’s House of Pain and Hall of Shame.
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/03/flying-high-ducks-knock-off-ucla-headed-to-rose-bowl

quote:
"Of course I acknowledge there is disappointment around the fact that we’ve got a 6-6 team that fired their coach this week," Scott said Friday.
"But I don’t spend a lot of time trying to script what happens on the field or what happens as a result of NCAA committee infractions."

Dear Larry – you could at least acknowledge that your own website has Stanford listed Number 1 in the North and USC listed Number 1 in the South, instead of foisted this fascade of a game as a “championship”.

And, let’s face if you “don’t spend alot of time trying to script what happens on the field”, does that suggest that you do spend some time doing that and it’s just not the majority of the day? What exactly does this Harvard educated man mean by “spend ALOT of time”?
Just a few phone calls Larry?

The way Fox Sports was kissing your hand, it made me wonder how much money they’re paying you to sit in Walnut Creek. Do you have some sort of Bermuda or Aussie account with Murdoch controlled companies giving you a pay out for that FSN ticket? NBC / Versus must really dislike your Fox favoritism.

Frankly, with KSPN being the flagship of the USC Trojan network, it starts to make me think about whether or not Bob Iger and the Disney people need to go up to Oregon and renegotiate their TV deal also. At least ESPN sets up Game Day at the Coliseum, the Farm, AND Autzen this season. Where were you on Saturday morning when GameDay was out there?

Hope that Fox rating tonight was a good one at 5 PM PST. Who the heck was going to watch that game other than a Big Ten rival in order to see the holes in Chip’s game?

Was that your timing?

How about a Saturday game next year?

Trophy comments

From the PAC-12 website above…

"I did not want a traditional trophy or cup, I wanted something contemporary, modern and fun," Held said.

“I wanted an iconic form, something unique to the Pac-12. "

"I started researching other sports trophies and I was really gravitated to the Lombardi Trophy. It has a very clean and elegant design. I am fairly obsessed with form and the strongest forms are simple, elegant designs. They stand the test of time. That’s exactly what I was trying to create with the Pac-12 Football Championship Trophy. I wanted to capture all of the emotion of winning with a very clean and simple design."

I have to admit

the bruins did better than I thought they would. At least they didn’t lay down and die. Losing by 18 points against the Ducks at Autzen for them isn’t embarrassing. I think they did about as well as Stanford.

Duck soup

Not much of a surprise up in Eugene… except for the score… a lot closer than most of us (and Vegas) thought it would be. That UCLA hung 17 points on the Duck defense while they couldn’t score a point against SC is another post season reminder of just how much things have improved here. And that’s the key to beating Oregon… DEFENSE… the blueprint has been there when the Ducks lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, Auburn in the BCS title game, and again against LSU this year. A strong defense, especially against the run, is the answer to Duck Speed Ball. Speaking of which… at times last night it seemed the Ducks tried to go so fast they ran themselves out of their own plays. With the coming of Rich Rod and Mike Leach to the conference, you guessed it… even more speed ball. UCLA could go that direction too. Bad news for Oregon as the PAC-12 defenses will all adapt to seeing this type of offense… showing once again the key to winning is a strong D. Keep it up Monte and Lane… it’s working. Meanwhile… if you’ve got the talent… stay with the pro offense…. just as hard to defend when you’ve got the talent… and SC does… on both sides of the ball.

almost forgot

Congrats to Oregon on the PAC-12 title… that’s three in a row!! Next year though the competition won’t be partially excluded… unless of course the NCAA comes calling up there in Eugene… seems they’ve been sniffin’ around lately. And Larry… if the NCAA does drop the hammer up there… we all down here will expect you to drop yours too.

With fewer turnovers and an accurate QB, the Bruins could have won

I think the aura of Duck conference invincibility was shattered by the Trojans in Eugene. The great Duck championship era is in its last year. Football is cyclical.

It will be a big disappointment if we don't end the Ducks' run next year

I think those are the expectations for next season. A very high bar is now set for Kiff and Co. But I think they’re prepared for that and they have the same expectations. The players obviously believe they’re national contenders.

I was at a banquet where John Baxter spoke last night… I was starting to get drunk at this point but I remember one thing he said… wait no, two things:

1. We lead the nation in blocked kicks (16!) in the 25 games since the new staff came in.

2. “If you liked this season, you ain’t seen nothing yet…”
