I was worried about this too
But I agree, it’s definitely not on Kiffin.

THIS IS USC DECOMMITTING
How much clearer do the bosses have to make it before people will understand?
USC IS NOT COMMITTED TO BIG-TIME FOOTBALL
The ONLY thing USC is truly committed to is staying out of the news until that $6 Billion is safely in the bank. Oh, and stop dreaming that whale donors give a rat’s behind about football, they don’t.

Dramatic, much?
Geeze, Louise- Loco! Here’s where I’m coming from: USC IS college football. One, or even a few recruits does not make or break a powerhouse like the USC football program. We’re going to have some lean times, especially when these reductions hit us- on the for realz.
We have an administration that is bent on taking the “repentant” route? This doesn’t necessarily mean that Nikias & Haden have completely given up on USC football. USC will never fill it’s stadium like Michigan, tOSU, or Alabama- but the fans, students, and alumni will still support their school in many other ways other than walking through the gates on Saturdays.
Considering our economic times, what other private institutions are pulling in the kind of donation/donor dough like USC is these days? And. for that matter, what other campus is renovating and aggressively pursuing the extent of modernization as the USC campus?

Personally, I have never spent four days
in the hospital after complaining of chest pains. But if I had, I would probably take my doctors advice.
And when my school picked up the tab for emergency room, four days of hospital, and tests then I would probably be thankful.
Next
I refuse to worry about recruiting in Oct. LOL.
We have the best recruiting staff in the nation and potential for a 10 win season.

Agree. None of us know:
1. What Armand’s medical issues really are, and
2. If those issues are the primary resaon that Arik decommitted.
Based on this sequence of events and that these unknowns, it’s a stretch to conclude that the administration is not committed to football. An alternative explanation might be that recuits change their mind all the time…without administrators pulling strings one way or the other. It may be that athletics are not the top priority of administration right now (and that’s fine), but the athletic programs run themselves. All adminstration needs to do is provide the funding…and there’s no indication that USC’s administration isn’t doing that. It is unlikely that fighting the NCAA in court (as much as I’d like to see corruption challenged) would affect the product that we see on the field.
It’s frustrating that USC is down a bit, but so are several other dominant programs of the last decade: Texas, Florida, and Ohio State. I beleive that these programs, like USC, are all down for reasons other than lack of commitment by the administration. It’s the nature of the sport.
It's also the nature of the sport...
…that the programs with the strongest history, tradition, fan base and support will return to the top after a period of absence. Teams that win national championships, receive national exposure, and which produce Heisman trophy winners and NFL players are appealing to both the top players and coaches. For the time being, USC fans are fortunate to watch some elite players fight on against adversity. We should embrace it and enjoy it.

JAG,
“It may be that athletics are not the top priority of administration right now (and that’s fine)”Not to be argumentative, but you are missing the point. Athletics is an extremely high priority! USC is adding women’s lacrosse and women’s sand volleyball in a bid to accumulate more NCAA (non-revenue) hardware. USC now practically owns the old Gauntlet trophy. And let’s not forget USC’s Olympic tradition, one that is unmatched by any other university; only Sanfurd and Uclol come close.
The issue is that USC’s administration can not stand the thought of another (real or perceived) football scandal, like a kid dropping dead during practice on on the sidelines. It’s all about risk management!
Someday, USC will return to the top of the football mountain, but it’s going to be years before the Athletic Department is allowed the freedom to do what it takes to win a MNC. This is especially true if it’s just USC, Stanfurd, and maybe Cal, that are trying to “win the right way,” and since at the same time the NCAA gives free rein tOSU and the entire SEC.

Thanks for the explanation
Personally, I don’t entirely agree that caution and competitiveness are mutually exclusive, but I do concede that it is harder to “win the right way” on the highest level.
I think all schools would be wise to procede with caution. The media (not the NCAA) is aggressively turning over every stone in search of dirt. A school like USC, which wil not receive equitable treatment from the NCAA, needs to be especially careful. That’s just the way the world is these days. It’s not the fault of USC administration. USC could fight the NCAA (and I’d be happy if they did), but you have to acknowledge that there are some good arguments why they shouldn’t.
The problem is that the USC administration Has No Balls.
They should have taken the ncaa to court to expose their BS

Jag
I can say, without any doubt, that Arik decommitting is a direct result of the medical problems with his brother. If Armond plays, Arik stays. The parents are pissed right now. It has nothing to do with anything else.
This is exactly the truth
The Athletic Dept won’t allow Mondo play until USC’s doctors find out exactly why he crashed. On the other hand… As far as the family is concerned, the kid is fine. We have irreconcilable differences.

and I think they don’t want to take any chances. They may have blown the Jarvis Jones situation but they will still be cautious
