USC Assistant Coach John Morton to the 49'ers
From RipsIt...
USC passing game and wide receivers coach John Morton has accepted a position on Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers staff as an assistant coach.
Morton, who recently finished his fourth season at Troy, was the lone holdover from Pete Carroll's coaching staff when Lane Kiffin took over last year.
Morton also has a long history with Jim Harbaugh.
I am ambivalent on this. Morton was fine but you could tell Kiffin had his hands on the WR's as their production went up this past season.
We wish him luck...

Morton was not particularly well liked among the players
Could very well be beneficial in the long run.
Any impact on recruiting?

Don't mean to sound overly harsh in regards to Morton
However, nobody was signing with USC to play for Morton. Was never a players coach. If anything, they’re going to go out and bring in a more established WR coach or maybe even promote Colbert. Either way, Morton was a PC holdover and sorta just there. No real impact IMHO.

He probably freaked out as many recruits as he attracted
Never could figure out why Lane decided to keep him on. This is addition by subtraction.

Kiffin hired Morton at the Raiders (I think)
Kiffin referred Morton to PC in the first place, I believe. Morton had valuable experience working under Sean Payton and the Saints, and working with the Raiders and Kiffin and Harbaugh and USD in the past.
But, yeah, he did not seem to be a players’ coach. And, no big loss as we’ll be fine with Lane, Kennedy, and young mad scientist Clay Helton. I would love to see Kiffin promote Keary Colbert to WR, then go out and hire a bad ass young TE coach, as that position demands plenty of attention with our personnel.

If this is good, I'm for it. If this is bad, I'm against it
I never really understood who Morton was or what he did….

Fight On, Johnny!
Maybe Harbaugh will hire Kevin O'Neil
