Will Norm Chow end up in Utah?
Interesting development if true...and he could be reunited with Tim Davis. Both are fond of working with each other...
I have learned Utah is expected to hire Norm Chow as OC and Tim Davis as offensive line coach. Hires could happen soon.
Like getting the band back together...

The gutty little bruins have already hired a new OC
without firing Chow? Or did I miss something?

It's going to be quite hilarious to watch the Utes continue to torment the little gutties
Especially with NC running Utah’s offense.

Fight on, Norm!!!
I was hoping that SDSU might consider Norm for HC. Regardless, Norm has had a legendary career, arguably the greatest CFB assistant coach ever. Norm has a spot in the pantheon of Trojan greats, if not physically in the Hall of Fame, at least in the minds of Trojan football fans. And, Norm has earned the right at his age of retirement to go out in style and in peace. And, by that I mean spending his remaining years kicking the ever living crap out of the scumbag Neuweasel who is the only stain on Norm’s otherwise stellar career. Fight on, Norm!

Rumor is Chow is on the outs
With Neuheisel waiting until after signing day to fire him, and announce whether or not he is sticking with the pistol offense. Nice guy for those new offense recruits.
With Chow and Davis, Utah could be a team that causes us and others in the 12PAC some anxious moments in the future
I was going to say
funny how he will have been on both sides of two different rivalries – that’s got to be a pretty unique coaching resume.
He played at Utah so he has already been on both sides of the rivalry.
He is returning to his alma mater.

Nice thing about playing Utah and Colo is that on the away game people can’t Ski and Party -—I know BIX I forgot Snow Boarding.

Hey SoCal- I still ski!
What’s weird is that down here in SoCal- there DOES appear to be a smidgeon of “attitude” when it comes to sharing the slopes/co-existing peacefully between skiers and boarders. Not so in Northern Sierra (Tahoe/Stateline/Reno area).
I rarely ski/board out here in SoCal, and when I have- it’s been almost unnoticeable – this animosity that supposedly rears it’s ugy head between skiers and boarders. It’s mostly apparent when idiots cat-call each other from the moving perch of a lift/gondola to whoever might be skiing/boarding down beneath. Otherwise, on the slopes. . . .never notice or have had to deal with any “problems”.
In Tahoe, I tell people some nastiness I’ve heard/witness to- and the normal response is just this halfway-grin that says about SoCal-etiquette “Figures!” Here’s the thing though SoCal- the overall nastiness of Southern California’s beach & surf communities, I’m afraid, may have influences on the snow pack. The type of shit surfers pull on each other out here on their “territorial waters” is quite infantile and has been hard for me to fully comprehend.
I get it, and although I might not agree with the way people “take ownership/possession” of certain nice spots with awesome breaks- I can fully appreciate the idea of protecting your local area.
Mother Nature is everybody’s mom, and is the true arbiter of justice of the outdoor realm. You get what you deserve out here, I guess?
As for me- I have 2 sets of skiis: Atomic and Volant. I’m all Burton for my boards. (sold my Fischer cross-country skis on Craigslist about 3 years ago)
I’ve been to Taos and Breckenridge, but never EVER Utah! I’ve been salivating at our away games to Colorado and Utah. (and I’m taking both boards AND skiis. Normal!)

We'll be happy to welcome both back to Utah...
As daedalus pointed out, Chow played for the Utes years and years and years ago. Davis, though, was Utah’s o-line coach from 1990-97 – an era where our line was the strength of the offense.
I’m hopeful this is true (and it appears to be) and excited to see where it goes.
So will this mean Norm has a grudge agaisnt UCLA
After all this is kind of messy and that was the claim by bruins when he showed up there.
Heard on 570 today @ 230 from Petros
Two UCLA players, freshman safety Dietrich Riley and junior wide receiver Nelson Rosario, referenced the hiring on Twitter.
"©ongrats to Coach Mike Johnson for joining the UCLA program and becoming our Offensive Coordinator," Riley said, though the Tweet was later deleted.

Were we right, OR were we right regarding The Weasel?
Now that’s one shady-ass, lyin’ douchebag- that Skeezy-Weezy, hah?
Lemme get this straight, with one of the toughest schedules in their school’s history- their Head Coach goes and implements a practical paradigm-shift of offensive philosophy- much to the chagrin and detriment of it’s very own highly-paid Offensive Coordinator, Norm Chow. The team tanks, their season results predictably fall to sub-mediocrity levels- . . . .AND the first thing Slick Dick does is goes and fires his Defensive Coordinator and whatever else anonymous coach he feels did the team wrong this past year.
And then!. . . .And then, he backslides his way into surreptitiously hiring a new Offensive Coordinator (when you’re a fucking SNAKE, this kinda shit comes natural) before having the BALLS to fire his OLD Offensive Coordinator (pun, for sure- it was intended) who just so happened to obtain a recent contract extension! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? !
Rant break:It’s now time for some ‘Slick-Dick Slammin’ (my first ever Rick Neuheisel joke)
“How many DICKS does it take to screw a light bulb?”
(no punch-line. THAT’S the joke)
Seriously, Coach Neu couldn’t buy a clue if he had Bill Gates’ money. He’s AS dumb and JUST AS irrelevant as a FART! All he truly ever really does is just STINK THE PLACE UP!
Lastly, . . . .why is it that our once-vaunted and barely elite UC-system is on the verge (some say a decade or two away) of economic collapse again? Could it be WASTE and PROFLIGATE spending? No. Way! Not with all those FUCKING GEEKS AND THEIR ABILITY TO COUNT MONEY????
Truly, the WHOLE ENTIRE FUCKING SYSTEM should get a Nobel-freaking prize FOR KNOWING HOW TO DOLL-UP EXPENSES AND CHEAT OUR TAX CODES!
A person can go amusingly insane WITH ALL THIS AWESOME SCHADENFREUDE! I’m in a serious giggle-fit over here!
Coach Norm Chow should be nicknamed: “Mo-money Chow”. The man, JUST. SIMPLY WORKS. IT!

I'm just razzin'
Having some fun. On a serious note, the UC system is STILL VERY VERY relevant- research and theory-wise. Academically, they churn out A LOT of talented and gifted workers.
I hear you’re into Occam’s Razor principle, right?
What’s your position on the UC tenured professors who have collaborated and signed on to the blackmailing of the State of California in order to ensure that their guaranteed-retirement money (for those who retire at around $275K) doesn’t get whittled down in future Legislative budget cuts? I mean on the one hand, you don’t want to upset your “obvious talent” and the entitlements inherent to their value and prestige towards their university, and their status of elitism. However, on the other- TALENTED AND GIFTED students and faculty WILL TURN AWAY from the UC system regardless of “retirement entitlements”- afterall, you’re talking about 30 – 50 years later.
If you don’t have a foundation of qualified students to teach, the top-heavy heft of GENIUSES waiting to teach will end up only teaching to empty auditoriums and very quiet labs. Without “young minds”, . . . .old minds atrophy and are left to only worry about dull pennies and a quality counter argument .

Yep...
Pensions are unfunded and Moonbeam just announced a half billion in UC System cuts for next fiscal year. It is indeed a travesty, per student funding has been cut 57% since 1990. Expect student riots this summer.

I just noticed that I inadvertently left “Conquest Chronicles” in my signature? That was the day after the Ucla/USC football game, a whole friggin’ month!
JOEY!!!!! I only had that there in the first place because my previous signature had YOU quoted!!!!
I guess I was so pumped to be the first to utilize Allen Bradford’s quote, that when I hurriedly changed from Joey to B-rad- I failed to fully extricate Joey’s name and affiliation. Dang you Joseph Kaufman, Esquire and Man About Campus!
I don’t know what’s worse? The fact that the mistake was made and subsequent reason, . . . . . . OR THAT IT TOOK ME THIS LONG TO NOTICE IT??

So...
About that DC position…
I swear this offseason has been so back-assward for RN that I’m beginning to have my doubts that he even cares at all.
BTW…total lack of class with the way Norm Chow has been treated the past couple of months. The man’s name is synonymous with “Great Offense” and he’s currently being treated as some throwaway interim OC.
by DannyJay01 on Jan 13, 2011 10:00 AM PST via mobile reply actions
Actually Norm was treated with Class...
He was cut a paycheck until he found another job. He was saved the embarrasement of being fired. He didn’t work out and didn’t produce in three years of coaching at UCLA. Do you really feel he should have been kept on staff? Would you put up with that type of performance from your OC at usc?
If you guys are going to run the pistol
then you should not have Norm as your OC. He never had a QB, he never had an O-Line. Why would anyone expect him to produce if you tack on the pistol offense being forced upon him. Neuheisel sabotaged Chow this past season, and he never had the horses to do much of anything else. Its good that they are parting ways.
we ran the pistol 1 year
Norm Chow sucked for 3.
It just shows you no nothing about the game of FB, typical bRuin Fan always blaming someone else for your short comings.

BTW,
I agree that switching to the Pistol with Norm was a bad idea. However, I believe the Pistol or Spread/Option style move is a good one. The new OC seems to be open to using Hundley in a spread/option style. Seems the best Offenses now a days have a variety of formations to attack with. I’m not really a fan of being married to any one style or formation.
Chow was never the problem, the problem is still there.

You might be right,
We shall see if that statement is true after next season. Either way, the talent level has been brought up to respectable levels. If Rick doesn’t work out, the next coach will have way better talent than what rick was left with.
I don't think Rick and Chow were ever a good fit
They were publicly at odds over several issues over the last 3 years. Starting QB, and pistol offense being a couple of those issues. Neuheisel is the problem IMO. Chow is a proven winner, Rick just takes teams and turns them into crap after 3 years.
Chow had Craft, Prince, and Breuhaut to work with, and an O-Line hampered by injuries, and WR’s that couldn’t catch a cold at the north pole with an ice cube up their noses.
Oh, I see. Your cupboard will be well stocked?
Problem is, with the bruin obsession you’ll probably end up with Cade McNown as your coach.
"The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything." - Joseph Stalin

Your team is stocked with players that haven't been developed past HS!
See it works this way———-A coach brings in the players he feels will fit his program and then further develops each player to be better than they were the day before. Ricky thinks he can just take the balls out of the bag and the players will just get better, unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. I sorry unless ucla drops down to D-3 get use to being .500 at best.

Hmmm...
Saved the embarrassment?
Think may the deck was stacked against him? TWO offensive minds running the offense….
Treated with class? Norm is the OC but Slick Rick hires a new OC? Is he fired or demoted?
Real classy…
Typical of Slick Rick
coming into the PAC
As far as I can tell, USC fans have been complimentary and welcoming to the Utes since the PAC 12 was announced. It’s been appreciated.
UCLA fans not so much. The Bruin Nation blog complained about Utah for months — and deleted every post I put up trying to defend the Utes. So much for free speech over there. Former Bruins Chancellor and old curmudgeon Chuck Young even went so far as to try and block Utah’s entry. Now we have the Norm Chow situation.
It’s easy to see why Bruins fans are so hard to deal with for you and I foresee an interesting Utah-UCLA game this fall. I hope the outcome is about the same for the Bruins as their last visit to Salt Lake in 2007. Let’s see, what was the score — 44-6??
Seth, welcome to the Pac12
We will throw a blog party like it’s 1999 after the Utes woodshed the Bruins by a similar 44-6 score. Skippy Neuweasel has taken UCLA to all new lows. Please embarrass him, and USC will do the same. Cheers! See you in Sept!

Consider us "Brothers-In-Arms", Seth!
We Trojans don’t need nor want to sell you guys any of our disdain regarding fUcla. They sell themselves. It’s only when we “have to”, . . .we deal with them. The Trojan mindset is such that, if the constant barrage of invectives and accusations coming outta Wastewood, CA weren’t so overflowing on a constant basis- there would exist a somewhat respectful and healthy dislike for one another. It would be a “normal” rivalry- not unlike the Notre Dame/USC relationship.
But, no! The whiny bitches at Westwood Tech & Trade are into their hate-filled circle jerking. They’re addicts, if you will?
Welcome brothers and sisters from Utah! The Utah Utes! (now that’s just a badass name and mascot. i’m dead serious. your guys’ football is seriously awesome. we Trojans have a great deal of respect for the the history of your program, and we hope you’ll be impressed with the way we conduct ourselves at home and on the road/on your field. here’s hoping this respect is mutual and that evolves into something even stronger in the future. What’s a Ute, btw?)

thanks again for the warm welcome
I’m looking forward to making my first trip to the Coliseum come September. It’s awesome our first PAC game is with the conference’s most storied program. We Ute fans couldn’t have written it better.
It’s a bit like transferring to a new high school for our team. Nobody knows too much about us and the Utes will have to prove themselves and show that we can hang with the cool kids in the conference. It won’t be easy and may even be a little bit bumpy at first but we think we can compete.
A couple of myths to dispel—
Not all Utah fans are Mormons. In fact, a significant percentage are not. Fans of our historic and bitter rival — the religious BYU — hate us for a number of reasons, but one is drinking. They stereo-type that we’re all atheists and a bunch of binge drinkers with facial hair and tattoos, which is only partially true.
The “Utes” aren’t some kind of animal but a native American tribe in Utah. The school has permission for the tribe to use the name.
Ute fans aren’t a bunch of tea-partying conservatives. While Utah is one of the most conservative states politically, the University of Utah is the most liberal institution of higher ed in the state in the most liberal part of the state in Salt Lake City. Professors generally come from other areas — especially in the social sciences and the arts — such as the Northeast, UC schools, etc. that tend to be lefty, so there’s healthy diversity in the teaching there.
