Brian Kelly could be the real deal!
Here is an interesting tidbit from ESPN (via our friends at Block U)...
Don't Underestimate Irish?
Looks as if Kelly did what he was best at, whipping underachivers into shape!
From ESPN:
Brian Kelly's defenses play a lot. Cincinnati finished last in the nation in 2009 with an average time of possession of 25 minutes, 46 seconds. Notre Dame couldn't match even that, holding the ball for only 24:55 in its 23-12 victory over Purdue on Saturday. The Irish defense plays longer, yet defensive tackle Ian Williams said they got plenty of push against the Boilermakers' offensive line in the fourth quarter. Here's why: Williams weighs 305, 10 pounds more than last year, yet his body fat dropped from 20 percent to 18 percent.
Now, there is no guarantee that this one instance will be a sea of change but this is a whole different culture that Kelly has put in place.
I still think he has issues and that his record isn't all that some think but I like that our rivalry with ND could get hot again with some great games.
That is all I have ever wanted, win or lose. ND matters to us...even if we despise everything about them they are our most important rival...

Not that impressed yet
It was a nice win for the Domers but they didn’t wow me. I’m withholding judgment for the time being.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
Let's see how they play next week vs. Michigan

So Fight On USC followers and Don’t worry WE Will Still Play on Saturdays and Bowls will come later, for WE ARE SC not That other Softball University. Oh and don’t say you now have a baseball team, it’s not Real Baseball unless you use Wooden Bats

Yup, here we go ...
ND beats a really bad Purdue team, and all of a sudden it’s “NOTRE DAME’S BACK!!!!!”. Heard the same crap when Weis got there … it’s like a broken record. They’ve got a TON of work to do there before anyone can suggest this program still isn’t a mess. (But they probably locked up their Sugar Bowl appearance with this win … laughable.)
I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.
I do think Kelly is the real deal
and, I was impressed with Dayne Christ. That being said, they were not overly impressive against a very mediocre Purdue team in South Bend. I think they struggle this season, and become relevant again in 2012. I do believe Kelly will get them back into the top 20. Championships no, but at least a respectable program.
You can't put sanctions on the fkn endzone! Death to the NCAA!
i'd probably agree
with this assessment. IMO Clausen completely carried this team last year, and an 11 point home win over Purdue isn’t nearly enough to make me change my mind. I’m seriously leaning towards Michigan in week 2 even though I’m skeptical of RR and not ready to buy after just one (very good) week.
Michigan just kicked their ass ...
can we stop with the “Notre Dame is back” nonsense, now?!
