ucla @ Texas
After all of the crap that I have throw in the direction of ucla. I have to tip my hat to the bruins after their impressive win at Texas yesterday. I still believe that Neuheisel is a hack, but no matter what you think of this years Longhorns team, you have to give the bruins credit for going down there and kicking butt.I am surprised at the fact that they have split their first 4 games. I wouldn't have given them a chance at all to have beaten Texas.
Well done bruins.

PLUS . . . . . A LOT!
Good on you to give them boys props. That was a serious defense they played against and those gutty-little-powder-puff-blue-boys HOOKED THE SHIT OUTTA ’dem Horns!
That running game they worked on ’em? That injured QB who skanked-ass into the end zone? Shit! Pistol? F_ck THAT! That was a DE Mark XIX .44 caliber!
Way to go frak!
Way to go Bruins! (still. . . . .I wished you would’a done that to the Furd!. . . . .‘cause now? that’s all we’re gonna here from fUcla: “At least we BEAT the Longhorns!” . . .)
That WAS a good game, that I never saw. But damn, if I don’t hate Bruin football fans. Damn.

Buying into the Bruins now
would be like buying into the Sept suckers’ rally in the stock market. If you watched the game, UT absolutely IMPLODED in the 1st half with numerous turnovers on their side of the field. Then, UT absolutely QUIT in the 2nd half demoralized from the 1st half giveaways.
No doubt, this UT team is not good as they transition from a running QB to a passing QB. The Bruin offense had NEGATIVE yardage in the 1st qtr, and finished 27 passing yards for the game. UT normally has a good rush defense, but gave up 4 +10 yard TD runs in the 2nd half, 3 of them almost 30 yds or more.
The Bruins have some good athletes for sure. But, their offense is bad and their defense only decent. This game was ALL about UT imploding and quitting. But, it does look good for the conference.
Bruins will return to sub-.500 mediocrity in PacX play.

I agree
but I would feel like a hypocrite if I didn’t acknowledge an impressive victory. Yes the Longhorns may be a suck team this year, but any trip to Austin is a difficult one.
True, you were bashing the Bruins
and, I was loving it. we’ll have many more opportunities to bash them this season.

I was hoping for 3-1 to start 2010
as a best-case scenario when I checked the schedule before the season but I thought Texas would be the 1. I am very happy with 2-2 though. DFW, while I agree that UT did implode in the first half, but I disagree with your analysis that Texas quit in the 2nd half. Four Texas turnovers in the first half only gave us a 13-3 lead, not the kind of score tha would typically result in demoralization for the opposition. Further, UT’s defense was playing well in the first half, and I don’t recall seeing many, if any, games where a D goes and quits on a team when down only 10 with a full half to go. IMHO UCLA crushed UT in the 2nd half, and if you want to write off UT as quitters based on their frustration with four turnovers in the 1st half, you’re certainly welcome to do so, but to my admittedly biased eyes I saw no quit in UT when UCLA took the 2nd half kickoff and went 80 yards on run after run for the TD. I didn’t see any quit at all, just frustration as they could not handle a fairly one-dimensional offense. You’d figure that Muschamp, who gets a lot of credit as a great DC, would know how to scheme to stop UCA and it’s not as if he lacks talented players to go against an OL for UCLA that was senior-heavy but inexperienced, to say the least. But UCLA rammed the ball down their throats, and Texas could not stop it.
Of course, knowing our recent history, we’ll probably lose to Wazzu next week. But for now, I’m very happy with a road win over a top 10 team-it’s been a LONG time since I had such a great Saturday.
Didn't see most of the game
What was your impression of Texas? Was this a down game for them, or is their talent pool just a lot less than it was last season?
Their offense is definitely less talented
but their defense is still quite good. I was pretty amazed that UCLA was able to basically just line right up and ram it down Texas’ throat. They really didn’t have an answer for the running game. It was pretty surreal.
As DJ said, I didn’t think it was so much the factthat Texas was demoralized because of the turnovers as it was that 80 yard drive UCLA put together to open the second half. I think at that point Texas knew they were in some serious trouble.
Colt McCoy and VY covered up a lot of Texas’ offensive problems over the past several years – namely, the lack of a consistent running back. They still don’t have one, and now they don’t have a particulaly spectacular QB, either.
Also, Texas' OC
probably needs to be fired yesterday. All that guy seems to know how to do is call three yard bubble screens. Great when you have VY, or McCoy/Shipley helping you run those bubble screens, not so good when your offensive talent is considerably less…uh…talented.
Congrats on the win
I do offer congrats, and it was a great win for the conference. But, UCLA could not run in the 1st half, then suddenly busts out 3 +29 yd TD runs in the 2nd half. I saw quit in the Longhorns. The sudden disappearance of their proven rush D seems to corroborate that.
Frak, I think that UT is suffering from the same thing that Florida was suffering from. Both teams are making a difficult transition from a run-centric QB to a pass-first QB. Their offenses are totally different under these QBs. Florida seems to have solved the problem by using their frosh QB to run in the wildcat with great effect. UT is still struggling with this transition. And, when the UT offense implodes, apparently, the lack of character on the UT D enables them to quit.

Signature win, we shall see..............
As much as I dislike the gutty little bRuins, I also offer my congratulations, you guys OWN the Longhorns. Way to represent the PAC 10.

Texas State Champs baby!
I appreciate the kind words. We’re all (I mean us Bruins, not you guys on this blog obviously) hoping this wasn’t a fluke.
Heh, why not?!
The Pac-10 needs you guys to win, nice job showing up those pathetic Beavs. Win some more will ya? Give Skippy a 5 year extension and we’ll see who’s boss on December 4.
Football season is here
U feeling Loco?
I anticipated a 1-3 start for ucla
And I expected that win to be at Kansas State, so needless to say I’m a little surprised.
I don’t think we know who the Bruins are yet, and unfortunately with them playing WSU at home next week we won’t learn anything for some time. They’re still an unknown to me; they beat a highly regarded (but possibly a pretender) Texas team on the road, but a team that literally doesn’t throw the ball doesn’t match up well against USC (stopping the run being the only thing they seem to be very good at) or any of the high-scoring teams like Oregon@Autzen or Arizona. Arizona State demonstrated some real competence yesterday and will play UCLA tough in Tempe the 2nd to last week. Oregon State is a complete unknown but could very well be doing their traditional “fuck up a brutal OOC schedule then play incredibly effective blue-collar football for the rest of the season” dance and be a great team by the time they play at UCLA in November. @Washington is another complete toss-up at this point. @Cal is only two weeks away and I have no idea how that one will go.
I’m confounded. The Bruins are not who we thought they were, but I still don’t know who they are.

I still think we are looking at a 4-win season for Zookheisel

I say 6 now
They’ll beat WSU for 3 wins, then it’s just the law of averages… UCLA might not be favored to win any of the games, just like Oregon might be favored to win every game, but they’ll win some, just as sure as Oregon will lose.

I don't see them winning 4 games in pac maybe 2
