Around SBN: Yu Darvish Diagnosed With Mariners Fever

I am not going to get worked up about the scuffle between T.J. Bryant and Stanley Havili. It's clear that the guys nerves are a little frayed with the off season they just went through.

To me the message is clear...these guys have taken on an "us against the world" mentality in their approach to the upcoming season.

Obviously, I am disappointed that Bryant was injured in the altercation and will probably miss three to four weeks...but what's done is done. We move forward.

As a senior on the team Havili has assumed the role of one of the leaders. Maybe he went a little overboard...it happens. But at least these guys aren't taking this lying down. They are focused on the task at hand. However Kiffin handles it is fine with me.

This is a bump in the road, but it is clear that there is some solidarity on this team.

Yah and on the OC blog the ucla guys are yelling crime that needs to be punished, their obsessions never stop.

Heh...

At least it was between players and not a purse snatching!

Yeah

He’s one of the last I’d expect to do something like this.

Shades of Steve Smith and Dominique Bird.

To try to add a little color

Here’s what I read between the lines. Players only workout. Competitive relay drill in last practice before summer camp. TJ may be “dogging it” a bit. Stanley, as a team leader, jumps on TJ’s butt to kick him into gear. TJ disrespects Stan by hurling expletives his way. Stan rushes TJ and takes a swing.

This kind of stuff happens in football practice every day. It’s just not supposed to happen in players only conditioning drills with no helmets or pads. The most surprising thing is that TJ actually needed surgery to repair, I presume, a cheekbone fracture.

Stan lost his composure but the intent was good. These guys are frothing at the mouth to play ball. The frustration level must be high after having to listen to Hater Nation tear us down all year. Stan is a leader and I am not worried about this one bit. TJ will be back before we really need him.

From my recollection, Steve and Dom fought over gambling money from Xbox. Very different scenario.

Yah and when they read a oc-reg USC blog it is all ucla trolls, at least I got back at those creeps with the Mad-TV video.

I didn’t think the mods would leave it, but they did and all of the trolls are pissed at me, love it. They keep saying I am someone else, I must have 10 know alias with them it’s quite funny. Lev has some good stuff but that dude never runs his blog with integrity, he lets this truth cat (might be Brian Theriot father of Trevor) flame all day with 80% of post.

Yah but this other cat a USC poster got him to basically admit that he was Mr. Theriot, but either way Lev has let that go on to long.

Lev on the other hand——well is a little writing bitch anyway, basically what that paper is full of since Steven Lowery jumped ship.

You should probably understand

That Lev and Wolf don’t have the control over modding comments that for example Paragon has.

The MSM legacy cites have, for the most part, a laissez-faire attitude toward comments. Unless it’s clearly racist or obscene, you rarely see any modding. The OC Reg and the DN need all the hits they can count, so they aren’t going to mod-out some pathologically obsessive UCLA troll with no life who is good for up to 100 page views a day.

“pathologically obsessive UCLA troll with no life” Am I being redundant?

Fights at a training camp

are practically a time honored tradition. I’m not overly concerned.

Rough enough without this...

Good to see the passion and intensity… bad to see the depth chart taking a hit so soon. Players might want to stick with a lot of yelling… like to coaches do… for the time being.

I dunno

I kinda like it. means the players are antsy and want to take out their aggression on someone, any one.

Tells me they are ready for some football.

Question:

I don’t have an opinion on the fight itself: it’s a USC depth issue, not my problem. My question is no one here has brought up the fact that “boys will be boys” aside, that Bryant kids may have lost a potential opportunity to start if he’s going to be out for 3-4 weeks. Thoughts?

We're thin at CB. He'll start.

ah, kk

sucks to lose the practice time then…

by impaulv on Aug 6, 2010 5:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes but we've got a lucky first four weeks of the season

And he will still be in the gym working out with just a facial injury. Not a fortunate incident to be sure, but not the worst thing that could have happened.

unfortunate

players like Havili are carrying a huge boulder on their shoulder from the subsequent discipline from the Bush glory days…being a senior and not being able to play for a nat champ has to be demoralizing esp when u had nothing to with the scandal
