Preview for 2010-Corners/Safeties

Bumped...

Here is a group of guys that are very athletic, very fast and very hard hitting. The cornerbacks are led by potential All-American S. Wright. T.J Bryant and T. Harris will probably fight for the other starting spot. The loser will probably be in the nickel package. This will be another area where guys who have not had much of a chance could see some playing time. B. Baucham, M Jones, O. Crittenden, D. Harper, J. Hart. run out the field. IMO S. Horton will probably move to linebacker to add a little depth to the position group. Patrick Hall listed as a free safety may also move to corner. Hall still wears a brace for stability of the knee that was injured almost 1 year ago. The corners in particular, Wright, Bryant and Hall all like to play cover corner and we may see coach Garza allow these guys some room to play their defenders that way. The only problem is that its like being on an island all by yourself. One slip up and the guy is gone and you probably have allowed 7 points on the board. Gone to the NFL is K. Thomas and B. Moore left school.

The Safeties and I will say safeties because Coach Monte calls them that. Very rarely in Spring ball did he say free or strong. So we have a group of some very very hard hitting guys which include a healthy D McAllister, J. Starling, T.J.McDonald, R. McMahon, S. Spiegel, R Erickson. These guys will be replacing T Mays, J Pinkard and W.Harris.

I do see this group as probably the weakest of the defensive groups probably because of their lack of playing time. However with that said don't be surprised if Coach Garza and Coach Monte devise a plan to maximize the most out of these guys. Remember that Coach Garza did have Eric Berry to coach and u can see what a great job he did with him at Tennessee.

As we conclude the breakdown of the defense IMO there will be some changes on how we play defense this year. There will be no Free Safety 15-20 yards behind the line of scrimmage like last year and I do expect to start to see the increase in TO from this unit. It will be more aggressive more chances will be taken and by mid-season there will be may people from the beginning of the season that will be looking at this defense as a much stronger unit than they thought it was going to be. It should be exciting and can't wait til they get to strap it on and start hitting.
