The Power of USC

There were many who scoffed at Kiffin's quote about the power of USC.

But he was right. USC will continue to attract the top players...

From Dennis Dodd.

You also have to believe there are more like Matt Barkley who believe playing for an NFL preparatory college is more important than chasing bowls, conference titles or national championships these next two seasons.

"I figured signing with USC would give me the best chance of going to the league," said the sophomore quarterback explaining why he committed then and isn't transferring now.

By the time USC can next go to a bowl in 2012, Barkley could be in the NFL. But that was kind of the point of signing with USC in the first place. Three and out.

"You're announcing you're staying for your senior year?" Kiffin asked.

"Yeah, we'll see," Barkley said nervously, "Hopefully."

That's a huge reason to believe. With an all-star staff, players can still commit to USC knowing they will be trained for the NFL and be seen by the NFL.

"I don't know how much two [bowl] games will do in evaluating how good a quarterback I am," Barkley said. "I'm sure we'll have played in enough big games to decide that."

BINGO!

I am cool if guys want to leave...they have to follow their compass. But 'SC will continue to get its fair share of top players that have a longer range view if what they need to do to chase their dreams.

Dennis Dodd is hardly a supporter of USC...he hammered us on a regular basis. So, it says a lot if even he recognizes just how special USC is...

#2 in the Pac-10 preseaon poll...

….but #1 in media interest. The mere fact that Dodd’s feature column following Pac-10 media day is about USC attests to the power of USC. Although many of us could care less about the media attention at this point in the season, it’s sends the powerful message to many potential recruits that USC is still the place to be in the Pac-10.

Maybe some of the MSM are starting to hedge their bets

I was hoping that we would make them ALL look like idiots with an +11 win season this year. At least, we should still be able to make 95% of them look like idiots.

Dodd was at the table with Kiffin at media day

Kiffin really seems to have really impressed them as Simers, Plaschke, and Reilly, have all been complimentary towards him since then. Maybe he isn’t the anti-christ?

Well it's nice to see that Dodd actually has a brain, now will trolls on USC blogs such as Levs and Wolfs get it probably not.

So Fight On USC followers and Don’t worry WE Will Still Play on Saturdays and Bowls will come later, for WE ARE SC not That other Softball University. Oh and don’t say you now have a baseball team, it’s not Real Baseball unless you use Wooden Bats
