Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

[UPDATED] The Backpedaling Begins...

So now the owners of the bar where the UT players got into a fight are changing their story...

"It's really irritating because they're making us out to be the bad guys," Morton said. "We've got somewhere between 200 and 300 people that we consider VIPs that aren't athletes. All ladies are considered VIPs, which only means they don't have to pay a cover charge.

"The VIP is nothing that has anything to do with UT athletics."

Oh, Really?

That is not what the owner said originally...

''Basically, it was a normal Thursday night — Thursday’s our big night," Morton said. "We had all the UT football players come in. They’re on a first-name basis with my husband (and co-owner), and they get VIP status, which means they pay no cover at the door. We’ve never had a problem with them in the past, but tonight, apparently they had a falling out with another gentleman. I don’t know why. I don’t know what happened, but several of the guys started beating up the other customer. I want to guess there was seven to 10 guys beating up this one gentleman."

Anyone else think that some UT boosters got to her to change her story? She is even on videotape saying it...

I like the name of the establishment....BAR.

A couple of other observations...

Dooley was able to gather enough information on 2 players not arrested to suspend them indefinitely...but he's going slowly with Da'Rick...who was arrested.

Got it!

Looks to me like he needs a stud WR and has made sacrificial lambs out of the other 2. If Dooley was such a man of integrity why hasn't he booted Rogers already.. Oh wait he is a 5 star guy..

There is some funny stuff on the Vols board...the conspiracy that Coach O was behind the bar brawl.

Gee, conspiracy much?

Speaking of conspiracies the blog across town thinks that Kiffin put D-Bax up to lying about being contacted from the 5 schools in question, that we are approaching a slippery slope of coaches saying things just to get other schools on the NCAA's radar. Then again they be right...after all they hired one of the biggest liars and cheats in all of CFB...

UPDATE:

Here is ESPN's Chris Low with more on the story...(emphasis added)

The 6-foot-4, 312-pound Hughes, who has not been questioned by police or charged with any crimes in connection with the brawl, has adamantly disputed Russell's version of the story. He told Tennessee coach Derek Dooley that the 5-8, 215-pound Russell hit him from behind after they bumped into each other earlier in the night and had words.

The day after the brawl, Hughes retained prominent Knoxville attorney Gregory Isaacs to represent him, and Isaacs told ESPN.com that his client was the one who was attacked and suffered a bloody eye.

"Montori Hughes was the victim of an unprovoked assault while at the establishment," Isaacs said. "Our witnesses and investigation have confirmed that Mr. Russell threw the first punch, and this has been corroborated by not only the individuals at the establishment but also by photographs showing the damage to Montori Hughes' face."

Isaacs also suggested that Hughes' status as a Tennessee football player was being used against him.

"Unfortunately, athletes can be targets at times in public establishments," Isaacs said. "Montori Hughes has absolutely nothing to hide and will cooperate completely with authorities."

OK a couple of quick points...

Does anyone really believe that a 5-8, 215-pound guy is going to start a fight with a 6-4, 312-pound football player?

As emphasized above, how does a college football player afford one of the top defense attorneys in Knoxville? I would like to know just who is paying that tab. Of course, this prominent Knoxville attorney is going to spin this sad tale in a pro-Vol manner, but now that a cop is hurt, I have a feeling that no mercy will be shown to the Tennessee football players upon conclusion of their investigation.

I like that the status of the football player could be used against him...you mean the same status that got him his VIP status at the club?

This could get real ugly...

Here is another gem.

Morton said his bar does have a video surveillance system but that when he went to check the tape the morning after the brawl, he realized there must have been a power surge a few days earlier and that the tape hadn't been running for two days.

Sure, the tape wasn't working...right. That tape was destroyed that night once the phone calls started coming in.

Frankly, this couldn't have happened to a more deserving fan base than UT's. They're getting absolutely ugly with the owners of that bar, which will put their treatment of Lane Kiffin and his family in a more proper perspective.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors.

They cant even get kicked off the team the right way,

Don’t they know the cool way is to steal backpacks!
Looks like Dooley subscribes to the Coach Kelly form of discipline, kick the scrubs off the team and save the stars.
And a big thanks to Coach O for being behind the bar fight and taking the heat off SC for a bit. (What a joke)

Let's see......"200 to 300 VIP's"

I thought VIP meant “Very Important Person” if you’ve got that many, not very important. But then, maybe they are using a Tennessee Dictionary.

Isn't free cover charges

because one is an athlete an extra benefit?

by frak on Jul 11, 2010 11:31 AM PDT reply actions

not if women get VIP as well

It is only as enxtra benefit if the benefit is only offered to football players.

Go read it again....

If all it takes to get the VIP treatment is to show your UT I’d then why do the players have to sign the VIP sheet.

It’s a violation…probably secondary in nature but still a violation none the less.

But I dont see anywhere on this post that says anything about a VIP sheet

Maybe you can explain what you meant by that or maybe it is in one of the links. But keep in mind that many many people in the same situation were afforded with the right to be VIP, not just football players. So it is not as if this right is only rewraded to UT football players (which would be a violation at some level).

I think it could be interpreted that way, but here's another way to look at it

Women aside, if all women get in, and only male UT football players get in, then that means that the UT male football players get an extra benefit that non football playing males do not receive based solely on the fact that they play football for UT. Its a minor violation if it is one at all, but rest assured, its not within the rules. I wouldn’t trip out about it. In my opinion if it turns out to be a violation, its really about as bad as the Papadakis Taverna meals on the violation scale.

The state of Tennessee is quite beautiful. . . . .

. . . .and it’s my contention that it is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL state in the Union. I’m not kidding.

The state of Tennessee football is not so pretty. Coach Dooley has his work cut out for him, thanks to former Coach Fulmer- Coach Kiff, after looking back on it all in hindsight- did a more than admirable job in his one year as their coach.

I wish no ill will towards their program (The Vols), but as an Alabama fan, (oh how I despised Fulmer) I like to poke fun at them whenever I can.

(in my best “Rocky”-voice) Here’s something I hope you’ll REALLY like:

Hey! That 5 day waiting period is awesome!

So basically, you’re using the logic that since athletes get the “VIP” status, no one else gets it? At most, this is a secondary violation (see Kiffin, Lane). And the Coach Ogre thing? It’s called a joke (should be the same in Tennessee and non-Tennessee dictionaries.

by Zach Towery on Jul 13, 2010 6:31 AM PDT reply actions

Try not to live up to all of my expectations

That’s the best you got?

Secondary or not it still splashes the good name of UT in a bad light. If the “VIP” status isn’t for everyone then it is a violation…

I am sure she changed her story once she was informed of the potentially NCAA issues WRT her statement.

It helps to "relax" a few people (5-day waiting period)

Maybe not you GSU Vol, but maybe the Vol living next door to you?

I read what some of you said (maybe not you. . . . .?) in a certain thread over at RTT. Something like Conquest Chronicles has something to hide, that Para is a . . . .what again?, and that we lack class or that we’re hypocrites or something?

Your sarcasm is banal, why is it important to meet Para’s expectations? Do something unusual for a change, be different.

Key word Bix..."ours"

I pretty much stay away from other sites…they offer very little in objective opinion WRT to USC. So why waste the time trying to convince people of something they don’t want to be convoked about.

I have no issue with Joel, Will, or Hooper. They are decent gents who I have dealt with in the past…fans are fans. They are partisan there like we are partisan here. Just like Kleph or Pete from RBR…great guys who support their cause. I have no beef with them even when we disagree…the difference is I don’t frequent those places because we are not welcome and they have their opinions set in stone.

One mans opinion is another mans flame…just depends what side of the argument you are on.

Bro, you are just embarrassing yourself by reaffirming a negative stereotype. Go back to the sticks.

by DFWTrojan on Jul 13, 2010 9:14 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.

Someone referenced “Tennessee Dictionaries” in a comment above, and that is what I was referring to. I guess I got to tawk a lil slower for you so-fist-to-cated city folk. Cali-fornee’s a big ol city, ain’t it?

Honestly, this whole situation is a black eye for the school. We’re all aware of that. However, compared to recent events, this is not as major. Yes, a player (projected to be a starter at a thin position) struck an officer, and was immediately kicked off the team. The problem is that once the fight started, some Tennessee players that live across the street ran across the street to see what happened. So who was involved in the fight and who wasn’t? Once the police finish their investigation, Dooley will dole out the punishments. And unlike previous coaches (Fulmer), Dooley has already proved himself willing and able to kick starters off the team. Dooley’s fighting an uphill battle, but I have faith in him.

by Zach Towery on Jul 13, 2010 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

I owe you guys an apology

I should have never said anything to begin with. The biggest problem with all of this is that in our rush to laugh at each other’s teams (pretty dumb when you think about it, considering none of us are currently suiting up for either team), we are ignoring the facts. Yeah, Bar Knoxville might get UT in trouble for secondary violations, but people are in the hospital, and some young men have had their chances at making it in football dashed because they made a single mistake. How many people would be fired for being involved in a bar fight? Pete Carroll and his staff may or may not have known that Reggie Bush accepted an agent’s money, but are Carroll or Bush paying the price? No, young men who have bled and sweated and gave their all for a chance to play Division I football get to foot the bill for one kid’s arrogance. I am sorry that I even responded in the first place, and I won’t be back.

That's BIG!

Truly and honestly- I hope it all works itself out for the better for y’all. Like I said over at RTT, I hope Dooley isn’t tainted and your program isn’t singled out and ridiculed over this. I’ve read a lot about Coach Dooley this past Spring and Summer. It’s weird coming from a lifelong ‘Bama fan (childhood/family thing)- but I totally like the guy and think you guys struck gold in getting him to come to Knoxville. There’s nothing I don’t like about the guy.

Like Para said GSU Vol- good luck my man. For your team and your fellow fans.

It's a violation if football players get an extra benefit

and not all Tennessee students receive that benefit.

So if Tennessee football players don’t have to pay the cover charge because they’re football players, and other students have to pay that charge (just because a bunch of pretty girls are also VIPs doesn’t matter), it’s a violation. Probably a small one, but those are the facts.

The 5-day waiting period exists because if you make a decision to join this community and you don’t have anything worth saying five days later, you didn’t need to say it at all. 5 days wasn’t enough for you to realize you had nothing to add to the discussion, unfortunately.
