"The West Coast is the gateway to the Pacific Rim," Scott said. "We've got a lot of student-athletes with Asian roots. Some of our schools have a very high level of brand recognition in Asia and a lot of international interest. I think we're going to be the first collegiate conference to have an international marketing plan."
Like I said earlier, you gotta love Scott's vision...

Paragon, remember when Ted Miller called me out for bashing Tom Hansen?
hehe. I wonder if he’s going to be quick defending that clown after what Larry Scott has done in less than a year…
Yeap...how times have changed...
"Mention USC to a Bruin and they get angry; mention UCLA to a Trojan and they laugh."
I posted an analysis here on CC
and TM linked it in his blog and called me out for my Tom Hansen remarks. He basically “disagreed” that Hansen was nothing but a buffoon dragging the conference back.
Looks like we were right, and Miller was wrong. Larry Scott so far is doing a tremendous job
+1 to Ahn!
Maybe you should post a new story on Scott with a link back to Miller’s misinformed piece? :)
Here it is...
Have fun!
"Mention USC to a Bruin and they get angry; mention UCLA to a Trojan and they laugh."
This is really important for SC
When he’s talking about the schools with international brands, he’s talking about UCLA, Cal, Stanford, and USC, and Washington to a lesser degree. USC is starting to become very, very well known in Asia. USC is pushing globalization HARD. Cal and UCLA used to have the market cornered on that, now we are close to or surpassing them. This has major connotations not just for academics and business, but for sports as well.

It is all very true — the SC brand means more than it ever has before. It all goes along with the on-going transition orchestrated by S. Sample. If you have not seen this video – take the time to watch it – it is quite an amazing tribute to him as leaves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MBU2tdg2ME&feature=channel
I recently met a 22 year guy through friends in DC who is starting his Phd in Finance at SC. He was even more glowing about SC’s reputation than myself. He is from Greece and had gone to the University of Maryland as an undergrad. I joked that Greece could use his expertise now!
One thing I love even more now than ever at SC is the diversity – it truly has a world face to it. When I was in architecture it had it as well but now it is even more apparent – like seeing Indian students playing cricket on campus – it is great.
