CC Rewind: Jordan Campbell's status with the team in question

Remember this post? I thought I would bring this back as one of Kiffin's comments stands out, Emphasized below - P

With the Linebacker unit already thin, Jordon Campbell may be the latest casualty...unfortunately this one might be self inflicted.

USC linebacker Jordan Campbell was on the verge of being kicked off the football team by coach Lane Kiffin, according to sources Tuesday.

Kiffin said he met with Campbell but would not divulge what rule he violated. He said Campbell was not arrested.

"Something came up," Kiffin said. "It's something we heard something about. We're in the position we're always in. Deciding if it's accurate."

Campbell was suspended in the winter for accumulating too many negative points, which are given for missing classes and/or tutoring sessions. He missed the first part of spring practice but was reinstated earlier this month.

Some guys just don't get it.

Campbell has had numerous opportunities to get his act together.

It will be interesting to see how Kiffin handles this. This is one of those times where sacrificing one to send a very strong message may be just the thing the team needs to see.

Update 11/21 - I have been hearing that the administration knew about this and self reported the issue to the NCAA. Kiffin's comment above seems to fit. Campbell has not played a down at Louisville and if I remember correctly he was able to transfer unencumbered due to the NCAA's sanctions.

Interesting development to say the least.

Well it all comes down to being a young man in the world.

But as a coach you must keep at least an eye on students when you are in a supervisory position. A coach can’t live every minute of a students life but help when they are around, or at least be aware. But maybe I am jumping the gun on this one, they could have been working with him all along. I feel this has something to do with school, so I hope for all parties they get straight.

Isn't this the 3rd time JC gets in trouble?

I know the kid is popular on WeAreSC.com and can do no wrong, but I believe this is the third time he is involved in some incident… Nantucket, Suspension in Winter and now this crap.

Well if Mayo's or Bush's parents posted on that site

would it make their kids less immune to transgressions? Not attacking you in any way, just pointing out that he is considered untouchable on that site despite the 3 incidents

Reserving judgement

until I hear what he has actually done wrong. If it’s skipping class, or being late to study hall, then dismissal from the team is too harsh. This may be a teachable moment, and the kids are just getting used to their new coaches. An adjustment period for the new rules would be prudent.

I grew up knowing

his Grandfather, he was the announcer at all our football games, great man. I know that if Jordan digs deep he will figure things out. I’m not even a USC fan, but i root for him since i knew him as a little kid, so i only wish him luck. Hopefully he figures it out before its too late!
