NFL Draft Day 2 (and 3) Open Thread

Photo

Updated and Bumped...P

Yesterday, we saw more players from Idaho get drafted than payers from USC, but today that all figures to change. Yes, we're going to beat the Vandals!

Presently, according to draft experts, if there is even such a thing, it looks as if four Trojans - OL Charles Brown, DE Everson Griffen, S Taylor Mays, and WR Damian Williams may all be drafted in the second round. So, in the meanwhile, feel free to post your thoughts below as we wait and see where these guys end up going. Oh, and if you're still wondering, Jimmy Clausen hasn't been drafted yet.

UPDATE...

So, we saw 4 Trojans drafted yesterday. Taylor Mays, D-WIll, Charles Brown and KeTo.

Everson Griffen is still on the board. It will be interesting to see who goes where today. Still a lot of our guys to be picked today.

On a side note... I will never watch the draft on ESPN ever again. Aside from all the sack washing of Tebow; the two guys I want to hear more from, Kiper and McShay (regardless of what many think of them), have been pushed aside for that clown Gruden...I mean is there ANY pick that he doesn't love? What happened to Keyshawn? He brought some pretty honest insight not the crap that Gruden spews..and Berman? God, he has so jumped the shark...

Good place for Mays

He has a coach who values big, hard-hitting safeties.

So, anyone still feel that Damian and Everson made the right decision?

Where did Steve Smith go? relative to Jarrett?

by DC Trojan on Apr 23, 2010 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions

My only point was

that they left because they thought that they would be going in the 2nd round, minimum.

A fair point… but I think that Williams, like Smith, will thrive as a receiver and returner at Tennessee, and that will in turn get him some more cash.

As for Everson, I don’t know. But he may be able to pull something similar.

Damian Graduated just like MS

Griffen saw that PC was heading out so it was time to go…he could have used another year under coach O tho…

Yeah but in the 3rd round, wasn’t their thinking predicated on going earlier?

Seahawks take Anthony McCoy in the 6th round

I suppose Pete knows better than anyone his abilities. Now if only he can motivate him better than he did at SC….

Kiper is fantastic

Just have him talk with McShay and Berman and it’d be pretty darn good. Steve Young is a joke too. We don’t even need to comment on Gruden.

Didn’t Kiper get basically every pick prediction for the first round wrong?

by DC Trojan on Apr 24, 2010 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions

If he’s completely wrong about how teams value players, how can his analysis be good? I’m not asking to be combative, I don’t generally pay attention to the NFL but I am constantly struck at how full of shit most of these draft “experts” seem to be. I also disapprove of the degree of vitriol they bring to the effort – some fat ass “analyst” was talking shit about Everson Griffen the other day, and while there are “constructive critiques” to be made, I have very little patience with some desk jockey who hasn’t played or coached being that rude about people who have worked their ass off in order to get to where they are.

Hoping Pete gives him a shot

although with Washington and White I’m not sure how he fits in.

This link also lists the Seahawks as picking up a couple of Trojan free agents

Josh Pinkard and Jeff Byers are apparently going to Seattle as well.

Alex Parsons is going to the Raiders as well.

by FightOn09 on Apr 24, 2010 5:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Will Harris is also a Seahawk now

So Seattle now has the following former USC guys around:

Lofa Tatupu
Lawrence Jackson
Ryan Powdrell
Big Mike Williams
Anthony McCoy
Jeff Byers
Will Harris
Josh Pinkard
LenDale White

and Chris Richard as a coach. Taylor Mays can bitch all he wants but Pete clearly isn’t forgetting his guys, only Lofa and LoJack were there before.

That's not what TM is pissed about

TM thought PC wasn’t honest with him about what he needed to do to improve his draft stock this year not that he didn’t get picked by PC. TM even admitted that Thomas was better.

TM should have come out last year…but HE made a different decision….

What message does that really send though

Pete- Leave school now Taylor, because right now your stock is better and you will get paid more than you are worth.

or

Pete- Taylor, you can do better next season and improve your stock if you come back to work on the areas of your game that are weak right now.

I don’t think Pete lied to Taylor. I think Pete bet that Taylor would improve, and Taylor just didn’t.

I think the overwhelming majority of USC players that have returned for their senior years have improved their stock rather than hurt them.

Carson, Troy, Clay, Cush to name a few

Leinart, Talyor, and maybe Rey all went down a bit.

by frak on Apr 25, 2010 6:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Nice gesture by Pete

But 75% of these guys are getting cut before the next season starts.
