Everson Griffen is a Beast!

Not like we didn't know this before but...

The dude went out and turned some heads yesterday...

Griffen, a defensive end who declared for the 2010 NFL draft after his junior year, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds at 268 pounds.

He participated in drills for defensive ends and outside linebackers and did "everything" well, according to one scout.

Griffen wanted to prove he's a hard worker amid concerns about his work ethic and maturity.

"It all started with coach Jethro (Franklin) coming in," Griffen said, referring to USC's defensive line coach last season.

"He taught me more than playing football. He taught me off the field. Everything works together.

"You've got to do right off the field to do right on the field.

"That's what I tried to do this past year."

Looks like it paid off!

Don't believe me?

Check out the video for yourself...

I dunno 'bout all this maturity

Wasn’t Marc Tyler talking about Griffen when he said this:

At the end, guys started going different ways. … When we started losing a little bit, you could tell we had certain guys who were just like, ‘Man, I’m just going to worry about myself and get ready for the draft — get myself healthy.

IMHO, Griffen was a bigger dissapointment than McKnight. It wasn’t that McKnight didn’t live up to the hype, it’s that he never should have been all that hyped to begin with. From Lev’s Blog’s on the OC Register:

When you add up what’s not there, it’s more than what is there — lack of size, lack of inside running ability, fumbles, injuries, susceptible in pass protection.

Small stature, small hands, lacks breakaway speed, it’s not like he shrunk and got slower at USC, he never was big or fast to begin with. And he still was more productive than Griffen, Joe pretty much singlenahdedly won the Ohio State game last year.

Griffen, on the other hand, was a physical beast coming into USC. I don’t have exactly numbers at hand, but in three years he started in less than half of the games. I don’t think he ever played in a game where anyone said: “Everson Griffen is the best player on the field.”

I don't really disagree with this...

McKnight was over hyped and as much potential as Griffen had there time when you knew he was mailing it in…

Griffen was never the best on the field

But I do remember him dominating one or two games (one game in particular I think he had 3 sacks? ASU maybe?). But yeah, being dominant in a handful of games over his career was definitely an underachievement for him. Hopefully he can get motivated in the NFL and have a more consistent career there.

+1

Honestly, he had such a negative perception as an underachiever, when he finally did dominate a few games, people failed to take notice. I must agree that EV93 was the bigger disappointment, only because he really did have all the physical tools to be the best D player in the country. He just rarely fully displayed those skills.

Now, to be fair, based on EV93’s comments, his coaches might be equally or more to blame. Boy, am I happy that Victory Lane is tightening the ship. Hard to accept that we may have underachieved during the PC era, but I believe that we did. Relative to our talent, we underachieved. Not the first time I have said this either. FO, Lane!!!

You're right

But he was coming along just fine in his junior year. Turf toe prevented him of getting more numbers and what if he played in his senior year?

to be honest

the notre dame game was like half his season.

yeah

i’m sure marc was talking about both joe and everson. joe was fine for the most part last year but you’re right, he should have never been hyped as the next reggie, there will never be another reggie. if anyone is talented enough to be the next reggie, it’s noel devine but he’s not as eye opening as reggie either. ev93 made some huge plays against notre dame, he killed jimmy lol but that made his season haha.

I really don't think he really cared about college FB and School, just wanted to get through to the Pros.

LA Sports is what keep me off the streets and out of trouble, thanks to all the teams Rams, Dodgers, Lakers, USC sports and the Love of Tennis.

EG was a cancer

He was a talented cancer, but he made an ass out of himself at practice and in games. I’m sorry to see such a talented player go, but the team will be a lot more focused without him disrupting things.

we'll be better without him.

not like he showed up every game. if he had then this loss would hurt so much.

if only

he could consistently played like a beast… huge underachiever, seems like it was always about the money for him.
