The Bruins (13-17, 8-10), who are, barring some miracle finish, headed for their third losing season since 1947-48.

At this point

They’d have to win the Pac-10 tourney and at least one game in the NCAA tournament to finish at .500.

We may have had a disappointing season, but at least it wasn’t as bad as UCLA’s!

I'm not disappointed with the season

I think the kids performed above expectations by far. No one expected this team to finish above .500, or sweep ucla for that matter.

I would normally rip on them, but I know the team and coach respect the USC team and coach.

But I will say that one person is in misery and that person brings everything upon himself, well I think it is a him. Look forward to beat the Bruins nation crew next fb and bb season, how many NCs have they won this year.

I don't think its the end of the world

Howland just didn’t have the talent this season. ucla doesn’t have any competition in recruiting really. It kind of recruits itself. The bruins will be back next season competing for the title. I have to admit that this year was fun to watch for me though.

Howland's ability to evaluate talent

has really been called into question. Many of these players that were totally shitting the bed this year were highly touted recruits.

Or could Howland be going through the "Duke Factor?"

Essentially if Howland and UCLA target a kid in Southern California and they become the first program to offer him a scholarship then Rivals.com and everybody subsequently label him a top talent even if the Bruins failed to properly evaluate the kid. That’s how guys who are first offered by the likes of Duke and even Notre Dame in football become “overrated.” Honestly, I haven’t really examined Howland’s recruiting classes that deeply to suggest this is the case, but it’s definitely something to consider moving forward.

Check out Berzerkley, SoCal

Whether you’ll be buying or renting, the best bang for your buck will be the incorrigibly-cute & patchouli-mecca-capitol of the world, Berkeley. Granted, most properties aren’t “new”- but practically all have incredible charm and history. Getting into converted Victorians or Co-ops are awesome, as far as choice, price, & availability. Ditto if you’re buying. Some of the new-market properties are moving close to old-market rates and will soon go past those markers.

Get in on that! Gyms are everywhere in Berkeley too!

Dietrich Riley is another example

His stock soared once Carroll gave him an offer at the end of his sophomore year

They'll always get good recruits

it’s a bit of an overstatement, IMO, to say that they have no recruiting competition. however, I seriously wonder if Ben Ball with its low scoring, constraining system, and high player turnover recently may not be less appealing to future recruits. The word may be out that fU¢LA is a pretty boring place to play ball.

ucla recruits itself

Even Lavin got kids to go there. More often than not they are at the top of the Pac.
