Interesting Comments from Tennessee's Eric Berry
Eric Berry has some thoughts on Lane Kiffin's departure from UT to USC...
When Pete Carroll left Southern Cal for the NFL, everyone wondered who would take his place.
Everyone but Eric Berry.
"I immediately knew — ‘Oh, it’s going to be Coach Kiffin,’" he said.
The Tennessee defensive back was spot on. Lane Kiffin ditched the Volunteers and hooked up with the Trojans, a move that shocked the sports world and incited the Vol Nation.
But you won’t hear Berry ranting about the departure or fuming about the fallout.
"That’s his dream job," he said. "Just like anyone else, if you had a chance to go do your dream job, you’d probably leave, too."
Well, somebody gets it.
Berry is spot on, why don't more people get that.
Tennessee is a fine school and has some nice traditions but UT fans are completely missing it if they thought Kiffin wasn't going to leave at some point...especially when the USC job opened up.
Time to move on...

Interesting comments and finally, A TENNESSEE GUY GETS IT… Did you read the part about the church? That’s just going over the top.
Anyway, Eric Berry said all the right words.
players are often smarter than the columnists who write about them.
Writing about college football or basketball is a lot of BS hands-wringing in the worst “won’t someone think of the students” manner, which is condescending to both the athletes and the general student body as a whole.
Eric Berry sounds like a rational adult who’ll do well at the next level.
(slightly off-topic: every time I read a Jenni Carlson column [which isn’t often], I keep hearing Mike Gundy screaming about being a man and 40 at her.)

Yeah, the way the media has been making this out is really unfortunate. Like some of thes eregional writers wouldn't have cut out on the Knoxville Gazette or whatever to head to the NY Times or something...
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
Great article
Eric Berry has got a good head on his shoulders……when I first went to work in the corporate world, Human Resources sent us to a seminar and one of the topics was about “walking in the other persons shoes” well I think alot of those idiots in Tennessee should try ’em on and take a walk around the block…….and see what they would do if a better offer, dream job, etc., came along…..
Fight On!
Do we know where Berry grew up?
my guess is (with zero facts) that He’s not from either Tennessee or the rest of the Deep South, and that the bulk of the writers with problems in this instance are.
Berry moved to T for a good opportunity, as did Kiffin….a better opportunity came kiff’s way, so he moved for it.
Go Bears Go
Eric Berry is from Georgia
He was the top player in the state of Georgia when UT signed him.
Much like Da’Rick Rogers was the top player in the state of Georgia this year, and UT signed him as well.
Hopefully this 5* top player will have a similar impact on Rocky Top, albeit on the offensive side of the ball.
As for Kiffin, this UT fan was perturbed more at how he left than the fact he left for his dream job. Hard to be upset with someone who takes a position they consider to be a ‘dream job’.

I believe
that most people in Tennessee can understand that Lane Kiffin left for his dream job. I think what is pissing them off is that they can’t understand how someone’s dream job could be anything other than Tennessee.
Yah i guess they feel that tenn would be anyones Dream Job, but not kiff so they should understand and let it go.
I remember when I was playing pick-up BB with Lo Romar (he was a piston at the time) and his little brother Wayne. He said his dream was to return to Washington and coach the Huskies I kind of said wow that is cool. I talked to him when got the Pepperdine job (I was seeing if he had room for PG I knew in LV) and he still had the Huskies in mind. It is really cool to see people get what they are striving for and not just settle for a pay check. Thanks Lane for Striving for Excellance.
LA Sports is what keep me off the streets and out of trouble, thanks to all the teams Rams, Dodgers, Lakers, USC sports and the Love of Tennis.
