Ucla FB and the Clippers
Just thinking about how living in LA for 46 years now and really who are the teams we know for in sports, got to say dodgers, lakers, and USC FB. The Dodgers saw Koufax and Don throw and Frank Howard pound them out, this was my first experience in sport in LA. Then came the Lakers at the Sports Arena Jerry West and Eljon Baylor, then Magic, Worthy, Coop, Cap, and Byron and now the Kobster. In Football we had the Rams (oh hello George Allen) Deacon, Merlin and Roman making Sundays at the Coliseum great. Then on Saturdays we had The University Of Southern California ( my dentist made me aware of these guys) OJs great run, McKay and Haden White, Allen, Cunningham, AD, Bell (rest in peace) and the present day guys. But in all seriousness The Clippers and Ucla FB what is that I guess the balance for so much Excellance, hopefully the Clippers leave and Ucla FB moves into the Del Ray league.

Thanks for the memories
What a game against LSU, what a backfield White and Allen and that offensive line. See U of Florida you can travel far and still win, try it sometime you might get better respect.
As a Rams' fan, I've got to say, this is a great recap.
I’m an undergrad at ‘SC right now, so I wasn’t around when the LA Rams were here, but I can only imagine the joy it must have been to watch that team in the past. USC is eternal. It transcends LA and exemplifies college FB as a whole.

I'm proud to say I'm NOT on crack.
And yes, the draft is THE topic of discussion over at the Rams’ Blog, TurfShow TImes.
Who do I personally want? If it had to be a QB, it’d probably be Bradford, but I’m worried about his durability. So I’ve got to go with the D (which was especially poor against the run), and take the manchild Ndamukong Suh. Right now there’s pretty much 2 camps among Rams’ fans:
Draft Suh or Draft the best QB, though some believe in Clausen and his fantastic W-L record.
We pretty much all belong to an umbrella camp, the “trade down for more picks” camp, but I wonder if that’s really a better route than picking up the best player available. I mean, did anyone see the Texas game Suh had? That’s about as amazing a performance I’ve seen from a DT at any level. It wasn’t just the 4.5 sacks, it was the run stuffing, the batted balls, holding the gap, the guy can do it all. It’s Suh for me, and Bradford would have to be lights out at the combine/pro days to make it close.

You wouldn't believe watching Deacon Jones run down RBs from the other side of where the run came from, dude was just a beast.
Merlin Olsen one of the greatest DTs ever along side Rosey Grier and Lamar Lundy, ah the George Allen Rams.

Believe me, I know.
I’ve watched as much tape as I could find on those guys. I can’t imagine how it would have been to actually cheer for those guys when they were around. Those were the days, and I don’t even live in them. As much as I love the vertical assaults teams launch on each other nowadays, I wish we could have more teams that play destructive defense like the Fearsome Foursome, or even those other teams like the Steel Curtain or the ‘85 Bears. I think that’s missing, and whoever emerges as the next great defense in this pass heavy NFL will have much respect from me.

I had season tickets in those rams years, I must have been the youngest.

That is beyond awesome.
I have to ask, we’re you a Rams’ fan at some point? Because I see that the Saints are listed as your team.

Thats only because of Reggie and Drew Bres, but I am a Rams fan at heart.
Still pissed that Georgia took them away after she killed Carroll, didn’t even like it when they moved to Anaheim. Still followed them even last year I just changed my teams 2 months ago, and I hope they draft Suh he will help them the most. There will be a good QB in the late stages of draft and I don’t know about JC, but he is a pretty dam good QB.

I agree, I grew up a Rams fan, but when Georgia bumped off Carroll and took over I became an AFL fan, Chargers, Raiders. Never could stand Madame Ram and my dislike for the franchise started with her. Went to tons of games at the Coliseum but never one at Anaheim except when Marcus and the Raiders played and beat them!
Yah I agree about Anaheim and only went to a Vikings game in first year and you really couldn't view the game that well.

The modern era is impressive in its own right
Reggie against Fresno State in 2005 was off the charts. I’ll take that performance against anything the 60s had to offer.

You got that right, I watched it on FSN the other day...
But man, it would be awesome to watch #33 glide pass the defense.
Hey Muchachos!
Wow, meltdown of epic proportions tonight over at BRO and The P wrt Norm Chow may be quitting. Only rumors but some of their “know it all” types (you know who they are) say it has legs. Ad this to the misery of the Mushrooms over losing to Cal and well, it’s good to be a Trojan. Gotta love Cal, they took ’em to the woodshed! Splinters are strewn all over Pauley tonight.

Setting up to come to SC as the OC?
Drinking so much that you forget your name is like trying to cure cancer, it might not be possible, but you should never stop trying.
Nah, I seriously doubt it. He’s got a six figure bonus coming his way if he hangs on till spring ball. Some heavyweight alums are still pushing, and maybe MG too, but I can’t imagine CLK giving up the playcalling duties. That said, Slick Dick has been calling the plays for the baby blues so who knows, it is at least remotely possible.

It is possible...
I read that he did not like the fact Nottingham didn’t go to UCLA. Having said that, it was clear to me that he thought Nottingham looked better than Prince and Brehaut (I think so too). Not a great signing day for the Bruins on offense and I think that may help ’SC’s chances.
Yep, Nottingham was Chow's Hand-picked QB of the Future
which means he doesn’t think Brehaut or Prince have “it”.
Loco, I don't know...
I’m pretty much over Chow at this point. Is it really fair to do this AFTER national signing day? What’s fair anyway, right? If Lane and him really do work together, I’m all for it. But that’s a tall order. They’re 30 years apart.
I’m with you on this Snowman. But some of the whales still love him so he may be getting a second look. As far as age goes, isn’t Monte older? The two of them can take their naps together during meetings!

haha well yeah!
Big difference though, Chow is not Lane’s daddy!
Lane is top dog, now. And I’m sure they will have their differences working the offense. Chow is more of a west coast offense kind of guy, Kiffin LOVES the run.
I think they can work together
I think Chow is, or soon will be, 64? We tend to think of him solely as OC, but remember, he is also one of the all-time great QB coaches. At his age, he is probably just looking for a cozy, comfortable job to take him into retirement. Meaning, he may be much more flexible regarding his working relationship with Kiff than he would have been 10 years ago.
I’m all for it! Bring back Norm!
Well, I didn’t want to touch that. Kids should be off limits.

So it's a pay board no thanks, I remember what happen with CBS TV on the USC site.
The darn thing never worked so I cancelled it not into paying to blog or read.

That's the worst site
I also subscribed for awhile, but encountered numerous problems; long to time to start up, or no connection at all and then if you watched a basketball game they would show replays during the live action or cheers like “Make Noise” etc. it was a joke. I emailed a complaint but no response that helped other than “We are sorry,” so I cancelled. I go on there occaisionally for free items like press conferences.
It’s too bad the school couldn’t get something that worked better.
Thanks has to go to Garrett, I think if I was the AD there would be better stuff than that.
I don’t understand why USC doesn’t have it’s own station, I mean since they have a broadcast program. They could create sponsor revenue, instead of paying for it.

Awesome footage, great commentary SoCal!
Somehow, I’ve got this 1970 Rams pennant. It’s all white with blue lettering with the Rams football helmet. When my dad went to CalTech way back in the day, he became a Rams fan. Still is, that’s the scary part. I grew up being a Raiders fan though. I did go see a large number of Rams/69-ers games at the ‘Stick and well. . . .I think that’s where my dad got it for me. Epic games at the Stick. Even in the 49-ers good days, the Rams still found awesome ways to beat ‘em. Anyone here a Bills fan? (poor bastards, ya’ll are worse then me)

I had tickets 10 rolls up 40 yard line and I would yell at John Brodie all game long.
