UPDATED: We may have a situation with Henderson

From Pete Thamel's Twiter

BREAKING NEWS: Top recruit Seantrel Henderson will not sign #USC LOI because of specter NCAA probation. Details in a few

Interesting development...

More from the Quad...

Seantrel Henderson, the highly recruited offensive lineman who announced Wednesday that he was going to Southern California, has not signed a letter of intent to play for the Trojans.

According to Henderson’s father, Sean, he will wait until U.S.C. appears before an N.C.A.A. infractions committee from Feb. 19-21 to hear about possible sanctions for the program before deciding whether to sign the letter. Though the Trojans are not likely to hear about any possible sanctions at that time, Sean Henderson said the hearing would give the family a sense of where the process was headed.

Henderson has until April 1 to sign a letter of intent. After that, Seantrel Henderson could find himself in a situation similar to Terrelle Pryor in 2008. Sean Henderson declined further comment.

Someone got into his ear...

I thought SPECTRE was the shadowy organization that James Bond fought in the 60s, not the NCAA… hang on a minute!

This doesn't make sense

I mean, he’s just NOW taking this into consideration?

In the Fan Post w/ the article about Henderson

It mentioned he “has yet to qualify academically” – does anyone have any info on if this could hamper him from actually playing for SC?

by FightOn09 on Feb 3, 2010 8:30 PM PST reply actions

Admissions will take care of that

I had thought he was sending his LOI late this afternoon.

by Joe Trojan on Feb 3, 2010 8:34 PM PST reply actions

This doesn't really make that much sense

Why did he commit today then? Is he going to sign with someone else? Wait until after the hearing? Odd, but oh well.

Someone had to have put thoughts on SH’s parent’s head. I mean, this guy wants to be a Trojan

by Julio Nievas on Feb 3, 2010 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously

I mean, in that NYT article, he called OSU’s home visit “boring”….how could he want to play for a staff that bores him?

We always have great luck with active fathers

If thats the case here we might be better off without

by ilium55 on Feb 3, 2010 8:52 PM PST up reply actions

If wants to wait let him wait...

we’ll know soon enough…surprised that this came up now though.

I mean it is not like it wasn’t out there…

Poor Kid

He’s been hounded by coaches, media, etc. for months and finally wanted to get this over with. I’m telling you, his parent’s got in his head. For good reason I guess… But Sean explained in an interview with USC guys that he believed USC will probably be fine.

IT’S BEEN A 4-YEAR INVESTIGATION FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

by Julio Nievas on Feb 3, 2010 8:52 PM PST reply actions

Well what I don't get is that if they are going to sanction how long could it be 1-2 years.

People are just putting thoughts in there heads most likely OSU recruiters I can’t believe the Ncaa would let USC recruit and sign guys. That would be the most unprofessional move i have ever seen.

Possible scenario

Sean: OK, Seantrel, lets finally fax this sucker to USC
(ring ring ring)

Hello?

OSU guy: Hey Mr. Henderson, it’s OSU guy, anyway, I want to remind you that USC is facing possible sanctions that can possibly hurt USC in the future, it may cancel their bowl game and other stuff.

Sean: Well, it has been a 5-year investigation OSU guy. I don’t think USC would get hammered.

OSU guy: Well Mr. Henderson, as we did love you and care for you and offered all luxuries OSU has to offer your son, would it be a problem if we politely ask you if your son would sign the LOI after the investigation? I mean, the NCAA will or may not “lay the hammer” on USC on Feb. 19-21. You can send your LOI before April 1 after all…

Sean: Hm… You got me there OSU guy.

SEANTREL! HURRY, TURN OFF THE FAX MACHINE!!!

NY TImes article

It’s really odd … the NY Times article posted earlier had an in depth look into Henderson’s recruiting process, and the article specifically mentioned that they had talked with Kiffin about sanctions had been reassured.

Especially since they mentioned that...

Tressel was boring, would you want to play for someone who was “boring?”

by gonz72 on Feb 3, 2010 9:37 PM PST up reply actions

SH will sign… I bet he got a lot of calls from everyone informing them again about the possible sanctions… But again, nothing will get resolved till 4-6 weeks AFTER Feb. 19-21

by Julio Nievas on Feb 3, 2010 9:50 PM PST up reply actions

Sanctions would be retroactive

Worst case scenario would mean losing a handful of scholies for two years. The kid got cold feet, it’s no bit deal to wait a few weeks so he can be sure of his decision.

but what’s with the Roman kick? And why Agrippa?

Why not?

It’s a toga party!
The metaphor: Caesar was betrayed and no longer with us, young Octavian is our new leader. As a military man, you know Marcus Agrippa beat the crap out of Antony and Cleopatra at Actium. Neuheisel is at least as pretty as Cleo, no?

also... possible loss of scholarships might be why usc kept such a small class this year... take your hit now.

Basketball team did that a few years back when they knew academic violations were coming

That would be atypically smart / forward looking. Fingers crossed.

This just in (rumors)

SH and parents told Kiffin in the past hour (I believe), that they are going to wait. To protect themselves. They wont be shopping around.

by Julio Nievas on Feb 3, 2010 10:04 PM PST reply actions

It’s fair. Transferring is enough of a hassle, I’d rather they be sure.

I guess you didn’t read the reports…

Day 2 was a different story. He came back to torch Owa, Powell, and Reggie Wilson

By the way

Can’t wait to see our guys tear your secondary apart. And if you’re going to give me the whole “err well we have the DL to take your stupid QB apart”, the answer is no, you don’t. Look at our OL class last year and before.

It doesn’t make sense, the had to know about possible sanctions and then to go on TV and make your “big” announcement and then have second thoughts?
Agree with you on both accounts TrojanCBB

You know, I just went on espn and si and there is nothing regarding this at all, maybe they all went to bed before this broke.

ALL THIS HUBRIS AND CELEBRITY...AT 18 GIVE ME A BREAK!

I understand his father wants the best for his son, was he not lucid during his conservations with the SC staff…or is this in fact an attempt by some other school to otherwise grab a recruit who wasn’t sure where he wanted to go in the first place?

Or is this the selfish ambition of the FATHER to get as much notoriety for he and his son as they can garner and leave SC dangling in the wind…either way, should Seantrel sign with the Trojans the School needs to put a muzzle on his Dad!

by alfa1 on Feb 4, 2010 9:48 AM PST reply actions

Could be any of those possibilities.

by Julio Nievas on Feb 4, 2010 4:02 PM PST up reply actions

Seantrel's momma said he's coming to SC

“He’s going to USC,” she said. “He’s definitely going to USC.”

by Julio Nievas on Feb 4, 2010 4:02 PM PST reply actions

And when did she say that…before or after he and the Daddy reneged on his commit??
