Trojan Men and Womens open up Pac-10 play this weekend.

Bumped - P

USC Men tennis team is still serving up aces in winning there tenth match of the season against SDSU. After losing to a very good  #8 Texas team 4-2 (out of seven points) in quarter finals at the indoor championship. USC went on to beat Ucla 4-0 completely dominating the bRuins, Texas lost to Virginia the Tournament host and winner in the finals. Lead by Robert Farah and Steve Johnson the #1 & #2 players on the team that seem to be interchangeable help winning at Pepperdine and against SDSU.

The National Champion Trojans Rank fell to #5 from #1 since the Indoor Championships but are still only have one loss on the season. Next up for the Men is Cal (friday) and Stanford (saturday) up north in the Bay area. This will be another big test for the Trojans, the Cardinal have always been tough at home regardless of ranking. Look for the Trojans strong doubles teams ( the 3 teams= one point in the matches)  to hold serve in the Bay area, which means just splitting the 6 singles match you can win 4-3. But looking at the Trojans line-up they can easily take singles 5-1.

On the other side of the court we have the #10 rank (9-2) USC Womens team who beat SDSU 5-2 in San Diego, nice going Ladies. The Womens team is lead by Maria Sanchez and Alison Ramos the top singles players and new comers  Valeria Pulido and Danielle Lao's who have been on a tear as of late. This Friday and Saturday the ladies look to Sweep #3 Cal & and always Tough #11 Stanford at USC Marks Stadium. If your in the area this weekend try and make the Stanford match at Noon Saturday, there should be a lot of Fireworks.

Hey SoCal

I seem to remember UVA hosting a similar tennis tournament in past years – do they always get to host that event or does it rotate? Do they have the pimpest courts in the country or something? Seems a pretty large advantage to host an event like that on your home court. Perhaps you can enlighten a tennis noob.

They have rotating sites but it has to end up indoors, pre events (matches) can be outdoors in the regional playoffs.

Basically it is the middle season rankings event and a coaches meeting get together. So it really isn’t that great but it will determine your seeding come Ncaa playoff championships. But we were ranked #1 from last years results and also undefeated until we met Texas, now #5 and should hold that and gain if we win out.
