Carnell Lake leaves UCLA
This one is going to sting...
UCLA cornerbacks coach Carnell Lake resigned from his position Monday for "family reasons," the school announced.
Lake had the position for one season after spending several years in private business following an All-America career as a defensive back at UCLA and an All-Pro career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
"Carnell did a great job coaching our cornerbacks last season and will always be remembered as a great Bruin," UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said.
Believe it or not Lake is actually one of the good ones. I am not sure how good of a coach he was but he had some potential. I got the feeling he could recruit and win kids over.
I wonder how Dietrich Riley is going to take the news...
That is going to leave a bit of hole as Lake was one of the bright spots on their staff, charged with bringing along their young secondary.

UCLA ranked 2nd in passing defense. This was a hit to their program. Then again, the secondary isn’t going to be as good as last year’s and it’s going to suffer next seasons’.
Weasel told Lake he’s moving Randall Carroll to DB ;-)

SOP at UCLA
The place has a revolving door on the assistant coaches office. Not saying Lake didn’t leave for the reason he stated, just that they do seem to leave a lot and they often say the same thing.
maybe it's the Head bRuin in charge

Speaking of Riley
Thought this might be somewhat amusing for you all:
Q: what did UCLA offer you?
Riley: National championships and a great education
The Bruins are after all have just one claimed national title in their entire history.

I will have to say that in the last few ucla grad classes more are unemployed than employed.
Wow you played BB with D Riley is really smart or did they hand him his grades, like a friend of mine who went to Pius X. Dude got to ucla and flunked out in first year!

Lake's departure could hurt
but he wasn’t around long enough to make any hard judgments about his coaching acumen. I think we won’t have too much trouble finding a quality replacement.
Well, he said "family reasons"
and until someone provides something suggesting otherwise, that’s it. Lake has not been eager to get into coaching since retiring, which suggests he doesn’t see it as critical to his future. That supports the possibility that he got out for the reasons given, rather than any internal problems. Additionally, there has been no report of any internal problems among the coordinators on defense, so I don’t think you can draw any conclusions about the current UCLA coaching staff from Lake’s departure.
Fair enough
but, you would think it would be hard to leave the staff, if as Dietrich Riley believes, national championships in football are on the way.
